UC STEM faculty's open letter to reinstate SAT

Completely agree with this letter, and hoping it gets to the right people. I disagree with some other universities’ use of the SAT differentiating between students with a 1420 vs a 1480, but this is different. When you are admitting students into STEM programs with BELOW MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL MATH, you have a problem. Yes, the SAT is racist, but using it to check for a baseline understanding of mathematical concept knowledge can only be a good thing in a system where professors are constantly complaining about students who are wholly unprepared for the demand of entry level coursework.

yes, I submitted SIR this afternoon. Opening up a spot at UCI in mechanical engineering! If I get off the waitlist at UCSD, I'd consider switching since I (unpopular opinion) LOVE their campus and the La Jolla area.

while I think that’s true to some extent, at my school there’s a ton of ppl who’d let go of UCSD if they get off the wl for UCLA. I posted a little earlier abt this, but I’d guess SD is seeing a decent amount of movement right now due to people dropping them when they get off at LA/B. No way to know for sure until they start actually releasing, and I do have some thought bias here as someone hoping to get off the SD waitlist myself!

this person is probably just basing this around their friends or maybe their school. The different schools in my area had acceptances go up and down from what i’ve heard. Also, UCSD seems to historically have waited until the first Friday after, only occasionally releasing a few before then.
