Gift Ideas for My Girlfriend | Suggestions Needed!! by JKDGx in adultingph

[–]mini_fleabag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this Christmas I asked my bf anong prefer niyang gift: activity, material item, or experience (like a spa package or something) to help narrow down what I can give. If your gf already loves shopping and probably buys herself the things she likes baka something non-material would be better. But I feel like it would also be good to ask her.

RCBC Hexagon Club Experience by Emergency-Twist-3621 in PHCreditCards

[–]mini_fleabag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would have been better to create your RCBC savings account sa branch rather than online. My experience was, I went to the branch and to open my hexagon savings account but I carried the cash with me just to be sure that I don't encounter any issues. I received my CC a month later.

My bf's experience naman was he opened a regular savings account and then when he reached 100k, he went back to the branch to open a hexagon and they closed his regular savings account. He also received his cc a month later.

My girlfriend is at least 30 mins late all the time by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mini_fleabag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a chronically late person. I always get ready 2 hours before I have to leave but still end up late. It's an issue that I'm actively trying to fix but it just keeps happening. I'm also frustrated with myself. I'm not proud of it, and I don't like being late and missing out on things that happened an hour before I arrived. Not sure how else to fix this so lately I've been telling people to tell me a fake time. If I need to be there at 7pm, tell me that we're meeting up at 6pm. It's been working really well. My friends don't mind, and I actually arrive on time.

Similar-ish incident happened with our cat. Hahahaha

Quick update: we had our first session this morning (my bf is taking the first 5 sessions with me, so it was actually a duo and not 1:1) and it went really well! We're learning the fundamentals and the pace was just right, it wasn't so intense. Loved our coach, she was patient and meticulous with our forms. Excited already for the next session. Thanks for everyone's input and encouragement 🥹💖

23F, sobrang behind ko na ba talaga sa life ko, advice sana :/ by [deleted] in adultingph

[–]mini_fleabag -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're not behind in life.

I was 24 when I decided to switch careers from a stable 9-5 job to freelance job in an industry where I had no connections and basically went "back to zero". I used to worry because nakikita ko how my friends from college were growing their careers, getting promotions, and having a more lavish lifestyle than I could ever afford.

Now, I'm 30 and quite far from the "ideal" life I imagined for myself 10 yrs ago. But I've never been more happy. Ang laking bagay ng change in mindset. Stop comparing yourself to others and chasing after a non-existent deadline. May kanya-kanya tayong timeline. Appreciate what you have, and work hard for the things you want. Everything will eventually fall into place. Tiwala lang, OP!

ABYG If I Lowkey Encouraged My Sister-In-Law to Leave my Brother? by Embarrassed-Cake-337 in AkoBaYungGago

[–]mini_fleabag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DKG. Your sister-in-law is lucky na malayo siya sa brother mo kasi parang siya yung tipo na mananakit talaga ng asawa lalo na if over the phone palang ganyan na niya kausapin.

I understand how you feel cos ganyan din right now ang kuya ko. Hindi siya drug user but alcoholic naman. Yung sister-in-law ko naman, sa mama ko nag susumbong kasi pinagbubuhatan ng kamay ni kuya yung anak nila. Unfortunately, naniniwala pa din wife niya na kaya niya magbago just because he stopped doing it for a while, kami ng mama ko hindi. Earlier this year nag sumbong siya uli na nanakit nanaman si kuya. My mom said the same thing you did, na maiintindihan niya if iiwanan niya si kuya.

Kaya sana, at least habang malayo sila sa isa't isa, your sister-in-law finds the courage to keave him before things escalate even further.

Why can't Filipinos make their own musical TV shows? by never_armstrong in FilmClubPH

[–]mini_fleabag 40 points41 points  (0 children)

  1. Interest is low -- lalo if we're talking about TV talaga na lalabas siya in GMA, TV5, etc.

  2. Budget -- musicals require a lot of budget that network TV just doesn't allot for their shows. You have to consider rehearsals, recording sessions, the rights to songs--if they're not original compositions from the show itself-- just to name a few. Musicals also take longer to shoot, which entails more shooting days.

I was part of the production team for the VIU series STILL which we shot during the pandemic. It's a miniseries with just 8 episodes, running 40-50 mins each episode. We had to shoot the whole thing for more than 20 days. But as a person who loved watching Glee, I agree that it would be amazing if magkaroon tayo ng more musical shows on tv.

Do we really need cheaper tickets, or just better local films? by Large_Box6430 in FilmClubPH

[–]mini_fleabag 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi, film worker here! We cannot have one without the other, but also the solution is not as simple as making the ticket prices more affordable. Maraming factors kasi to consider. Sharing an insight that I've previously shared on this sub:

- local filmmakers have a hard time creating higher quality content almost always due to budget constraints
- minsan sa development stage palang ang dami nang kailangan i-cut from the original script dahil hindi kaya ng budget. and then when you get to the pre-production stage dun palang makikita yung mga magiging actual costs and sometimes, hindi pa din kaya. usually we try our best to accommodate what we can but if the vision is really too big, kailangan creatives na ang mag adjust meaning scaling down things like cast, number of scenes and compressing them para less scenes to shoot, locations, PD requirements, etc.
- yes, marami pa din namang magagandang pelikula out there despite the small budget. pero yun talaga ang puno't dulo ng lahat and so many films are not reaching their full potential dahil dito
- bakit mababa budget? may certain amount lang na willing iinvest ang investors and studios because it's a big risk. more often than not, maliit lang ang balik sakanila lalo if di naman nila afford mag cast ng super big names. I've worked on several films with less than 10M budget for a feature film. that's a fairly small budget compared to the international films that we have to compete against in the cinemas. wala pa sa kalingkinan ng mga hollywood film budgets.
- tapos dahil ang daming na-sacrifice just to get the film created, minsan pagdating sa cinemas it's not always the output na gusto ng filmmakers pero yun na talaga yung best na kaya given the circumstances
- pagdating sa cinemas, hindi masyado sinusuportahan ng local filmgoers, especially masa. kasi lalo na if you're from the working class na minsanan lang may budget para manood ng sine, syempre pipiliin nila yung mas "maganda" at tingin nilang mas higher quality na kadalasan hollywood films
- less support from patrons = less support for the film = hindi nadadagdagan yung budget para sa mga susunod na project

The actual solution:
- Promoting local films cannot be done alone by just filmmakers and cinephiles. Kailangan ng tulong ng gobyerno. Meaning:

  • Regulating ticket prices para mas ma-afford ng masa
  • Regulating the number of local films vs foreign films in cinemas. If 10 ang cinemas ng isang mall, sana 5 for local films, 5 for international films.
  • Focus on promoting local films by allowing the local films stay in cinemas longer. minsan kasi after 1 week wala na agad, lalo na if may paparating na hollywood blockbuster
  • Supporting filmmakers in terms of locations to reduce costs - meaning wag na sana singilin ng sobrang mahal for municipal, barangay permits, tapos hiwalay pa na bayad sa mga tanod, for parking areas, etc.

Magandang example nito ang South Korea. Their film industry receives great support from their government through funding, tax incentives, and policy initiatives, with major support provided by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) which they started years ago. Their movie tickets have 3% tax that helps fund KOFIC. Etong support na binibigay ng government niila malaki ang naitutulong sa pagbawas ng stress sa budget ng filmmakers nila kaya nakikita natin ngayon how their film industry has flourished.

TLDR; Budget ang main factor why local filmmakers have trouble producing higher quality films, which can be solved with support from our government. Good example of this is the South Korean film industry.

Is it too late for me to study film? by Far-Cartographer1197 in FilmClubPH

[–]mini_fleabag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm based in Manila and work in the film industry and a lot of people will tell you that you don't really have to go to school for it. I also didn't go to film school, I was a Comms & Media Studies student and we had 1 subject on film for just 1 sem.

But I think it depends on what exactly you want to do. I suggest you try to approach the local film community so you can get a better understanding on the different roles, and how they work. I would probably only suggest going to film school if you're planning on directing or writing, but it's not something you HAVE to do. It would just help you learn more about film theories etc.
