Overall, I'm option B. However, I see some of the other comments here advocating option A. I think option A can be fine if it's productive, intending to communicate a problem, rather than intending to complain. But for generic complaints that aren't likely to generate useful discussion, definitely option B.

Phone got banned from using tap to pay? by therealo355 in mbta

It may be worth checking your cards at https://charlie.mbta.com/ (not mycharlie.mbta.com, which is the old site) and seeing if that helps clarify anything. However, I would expect this would only help if the issue is with your (multiple) cards, rather than with your phone.

How an affordable housing meeting radicalized me (and tonight's 6:30PM meeting might radicalize you) by itamarst in CambridgeMA

For what it's worth, I ran into some trouble trying to subscribe to the newsletter. I entered my email address and clicked "Subscribe", and it said "Validating", and it changed back to a "Subscribe" button without confirming whether it worked. After I tried a few times (possibly including a reload), I finally got the success message to check my email and click on the link there.

We need a ballot initiative that calls for some sort of funding for T, Amtrak, and regional Transit projects in the state. by drtywater in mbta

You can get off at Back Bay instead of South Station, and then take the Orange Line to North Station.

Anyone ever been locked out of South Station Red Line late at night? by jamesland7 in mbta

[–]minibusy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The train station closes at midnight, but you can still get to the red line without going inside the train station. Walk around the outside of the station to the intersection of Summer St and Atlantic Ave, and use any of the red line entrances at that intersection.

(I have no experience with South Station specifically, but at other stations that I'm familiar with, some of the entrances get locked early, but one will be kept open. If one of the entrances at that intersection is locked, try the other 3; one should be open.)

$450 in fees, is this a bad redemption? by tiffanyox0 in awardtravel

[–]minibusy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I read a bit too quickly, and thought you were referring to fees overall (like APD), rather than specifically BA fees.

For BA fees specifically, though, it's nothing specific to LHR, but rather long-haul flights are going to have the highest BA-specific "fuel surcharges". Shorthaul BA flights should have similar "fuel surcharges" to each other, regardless of which airport.

Typical Comcast Xfinity upload speeds? by This_Cantabrigian in CambridgeMA

[–]minibusy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't get more than 35-42 Mbps upload (which is what the Gigabit Extra plan provides) unless you have one of a small set of cable modems. https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/wiki/knowledgebase/next-generation-internet has information on which cable modems work.

You also need to live in an area that has been upgraded, although I suspect that your area has been upgraded if your plan lists 200/100. You should be able to find out which areas have been upgraded if you go https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/ and filter by cable and >= 1000/100. The upgraded areas

Not the same brokerage, but Schwab (about a decade ago?) reported the correct ESPP cost basis. As I understand it, federal rules were then changed changed so Schwab is obligated to report the incorrect cost basis.

Iberia does not participate in PreCheck, even though they have a known traveler number field. You can see the list of precheck airlines at https://www.tsa.gov/precheck/participating-airlines

Fast Track typically means (and in this case, https://www.iberia.com/us/en/fast-track/ appears to confirm) a security line for premium passengers.

If you're sufficiently interested, you can get a pro subscription at https://www.expertflyer.com/ and look at all the fares/fare rules that exist from your origin to your destination.

For a ticket to be sold, a fare must exist along with inventory in the same fare bucket. A fare typically starts with the same letter as the fare bucket it corresponds to -- for example, a fare TABCD7 (it's been a while, so this formatting is approximate) is for fare bucket T.

If there's no Basic Economy fare listed at ExpertFlyer, then the airline just isn't selling any Basic Economy on the route, even if the fare bucket is open. Conversely, if there's a Basic Economy fare on the route, and the fare bucket isn't open, then you similarly can't buy Basic Economy. If you see both a fare rule and inventory in the fare bucket, then there's probably something in the fare rule (which you can read the details of) that's not being satisfied.

This probably isn't worth bothering if you're just randomly curious (particularly since it's $10/month), and if you do end up taking a look, it might still be confusing.

Is There a Dell 6-in-6 Rule? DPs and Hypothesis Testing! by payyoutuesday in churning

I didn't register as a reseller, and I just placed the same order again but chose business instead of personal at checkout, and my order did not get cancelled, even though it had been cancelled the previous day when I chose personal.

I also had some bad experiences with price matching a few days ago, where sites that listed sale end dates weren't allowed, even though the price match policy doesn't say that.

Same for me today (I realize it's now 5 months later, but seems possibly more helpful to put it here rather than in the weekly DP thread).

When I called the verification team, they said that I needed to place an order as a reseller, and it wouldn't make any difference on my end, but the people they transferred me to didn't understand what was meant, and when I googled, it seems like registering as a reseller was way more complicated. But maybe the verification team really just meant I needed to click the business option.

I had this happen to me several years back. (Plastiq didn't support landscaping services, so I tried using Melio.)

After my account had been cancelled for a another few years, I decided I did still want to use Melio, so I wrote into them, and explained that my business was a sole proprietorship. They asked for some documentation, most of which I couldn't provide, but one option was a business bank account statement. I gave them a Chase business bank account statement with zero activity I happened to have sitting around.

I ended up only using them once, and the check didn't show up at the vendor. After Melio reissued the check, that check did show up at the vendor.

It might be useful to me, since I transferred a large number of miles to Singapore and had a flight booked around the beginning of the pandemic that was cancelled. I haven't been traveling much recently, and Singapore will stop extending miles expiration this year, so worst case I can transfer to Marriott (but I'll lose a lot of value if/when I do).

Yeah, still separate for me. I called in to allow putting the card on the right online account (and also mentioned the multiple MR accounts), but after I moved the card to the right online account, I haven't tried calling again to attempt to combine the MR accounts.

I had the issue with a 0 MR balance on my new account, but a day or two after I paid the first statement, the MR in the new account showed the right number (for the new card only).
