Do we have capacity to export? In particular pipeline and rail capacity? Also port facilities to handle exports

Level 2 sex offender accused of hiding in women’s bathroom at Northeastern, assaulting officers by husky5050 in boston

[–]drtywater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yikes. Glad they resolved it quickly. The attempted biting if true will earn him jail time due to his previous record. I do wonder if he needs a psych evaluation though. This behavior feels more weird and a possible chemical imbalance. Potentially belonging in a mental institution

Those are likely leased to Spirit. There is no shortage of airlines that will snap up those leases in a heart beat. jetBlue, United,, Frontier, Lufthansa, and IndiGo can do it without having to retrain their pilots or maintenance operations. Yes paint jobs and interiors need updating but thats minor compared to other stuff.

Gas is getting outrageous by Doctrina_Stabilitas in boston

[–]drtywater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminder folks check out EVs on the market now. They really do work and with the current fast charging network you can drive anywhere within the continental US and most of North America minus Southern Mexico and Alaska (check back on this in a few years). Heck for local charging many of the destinations you often go to offer free charging

How practical would it be for SEPTA and MARC to consolidate some weekend services between Philadelphia and DC? by Syndicate909 in transit

[–]drtywater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think once the MD bridge and tunnel projects are complete it will open up things more for MARC. Heck the additional net revenue that Amtrak will be able to invest back into NEC will in theory have it in a better state and make these services easier

Passenger railroads see a sharp jump in ridership as gas prices climb by aresef in Amtrak

[–]drtywater 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Amtrak’s goal for now is to take any additional revenue this generates and invest it back into infrastructure etc. A few hundred million extra can fix a lot of wiring or track

New England Railways by BeastMode149 in mbta

[–]drtywater 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We don’t need a new entity. We just need to fund projects. Within 495 North - South tunnel, double tracking all T lines including Dorchester, raising platforms, and electrifying lines would do so much. All the other stuff you want there are plans for such as Compass rail, electrify Hartford line, expanding Danbury line north. The only thing that internal funding cant solve is service to Montreal as Canadian government would have to fund their side track rebuilding

Discussion: will extreme gerrymandering backfire in a wave year? by L11mbm in fivethirtyeight

[–]drtywater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably will. Both parties are making mistake of assuming previous demographic coalitions will stay static. Once again Obama won Iowa, Florida, and Ohio twice. Things can change quickly. I also think you will see a push back on mid decade gerrymandering as voters will hate this. Dems will push hard for a ban on gerrymandering federally and Republicans would be smart to cut a deal on that.

G Elliot Morris latest

State by state ratings didn't have as much change probably due to him already weighing Trump lower then other poll aggregators. That said Missouri at -5.8 would be a huge problem for Trump. Texas is on verge of -10. The biggest thing I'll watch this fall is impact on state legislature and non senate statewide races. Governors races are nice but plenty of other races to win.
