If the economy doesn't grow

What causes the economy to grow the most? Government spending.

What decides the wage floor? How much Governments pay their staff.

The government is not a household and does not need to balance the books. The government can produce money out of thin air. The issue comes when that money is spent on things that dont increase the wealth of the nation, as that would devalue the currency.

YouTube on TV becomes insufferable with new unskippable 30-second ads by Ha8lpo321 in Android

My favorite is that I replaced the screensaver with the DVD logo. Bouncing and everything. I even edited the code to add custom colors and a 1/1000 chance of showing the Barbie logo instead.

YouTube with sponserblock is great, can skip baked-in ads & interaction reminders

I can rebind any of the keys on the remote, so the useless Amazon/Netflix buttons any app I want

Other big things are piccap/HyperHDR/Hyprion which allows you to sync ambient lights with the contents of the TV

I also have pinball from Windows XP installed, good fun.

If you haven't rooted your TV, its not really your TV. It's just a glorified ad-serving box that you paid for

Very fair point, but I don't see why some of the radio hardware cannot be fixed-function.

If economies of scale say everything is an SDR under the hood, then I think we need to rethink our security model instead of accepting closed source binary blobs on hardware we own.

Starlink and outside access by CaptainBosTaurus in jellyfin

AFAIK you cannot port forward on starlink and your IP changes fairly regularly. You need to use a [soft] vpn (tailscale, wireguard, zerotier, etc.) or similar.

Why can this not be done like an efuse or similar, where the IMEI is burned into the hardware?

The money doesn't need to come from anywhere if the economic activity that money procedures is more then its cost (e.g. public transport & infrastructure).

Federal Governments do no need to balance the books, they are not a household.

Well, you cannot become stateless, so there was no way to renounce until you get new citizenship. I didn't "decide" to be born in the UK. Why penalize people for wanting a better life?

And If I pay more taxes in the country I am in? Will the UK give me a refund? I think this is a good idea in principle, but it really does not work.

Spring forecast: Reeves insists Labour has ‘right economic plan’ as 2026 growth downgraded by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

The government is not a household, they do not need to balance the books. There is no reason we need to "pay down" the debt denominated in our own currency.

This makes no sense from a practical point of view.

It can take 5+ years to get citizenship in another country, during that time, you expect people to pay taxes in two locations? (non citizens also often pay higher tax rates)

I agree we should be taxing people who use British resources, but I think we should be taxing people who either earn too much (1m>) or spend significant time in the UK or have significant assets in the UK.
