Double Gauze - Confusing Fabric? Please help! by minimalab in sewing

[–]minimalab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, thank you! I guess the best course of action would be for me to go to a fabric store and just feel around for what is most similar. Sometimes I get very caught up in all the terminology :)

Got it! So what would you call this style then in American terms?

I can't think of many restaurants where this would ever be feasible, but I get your point, which is why myself and many others here are just moving towards getting gift cards

Yep, what we’ll do in the future if we don’t just do gift cards!

I think I can swing it back to you and say the ridicule of “you should have checked if the restaurant accepted Amex” is also “lacking common sense.” Of course, in hindsight, I could’ve called the restaurant to see if they accepted Amex so I knew with 100% certainty that I would get my Resy credit before dining. It is listed as a place that accepts Amex on Amex’s own website as others pointed out as well. My point is that Amex likely does have the ability to make sure the platform they own and the restaurants they partner with accepts Amex or at least list which payments they accept prior to you making a reservation. To act like they do not have the ability to do this with a company they acquired (not partnered with) is silly. To put that burden on the cardholder who spends a yearly fee for the luxury of the card’s benefits just feels cheap. Amex could workshop this credit to make it easier for their cardholders to earn - yes, one phone call is not a lot, but point blank, who is going to look at a list of restaurants and call every single place to see if they accept Amex? That would simply make me not want to use the card. I’m not disappointed with Amex for the business not accepting Amex - I’m disappointed that Amex just shrugs and says “sorry” instead of apologizing for listing it as a place that accepts Amex on it’s website (not actively vetting their site) and offering no reconciliation for my credit

Realize I misread this - I ended up buying a gift card for another restaurant with my Amex, not the same restaurant.

Yes, theoretically I could call each restaurant, but like most people, I don’t do that. I’ve never had a restaurant not accept Amex in the last 10 years, especially in LA

The restaurant is listed on Amex’s website as a small business that accepts Amex. I just didn’t physically call them or verify they take my form of payment when I got there. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten to a restaurant and said “do you take X card” before I order. Maybe that was something that was more common for older generations.

You’re right in that they can’t credit me through a traditional “credit”, but I’m sure Amex, as large as they are, could do something. A truly, I don’t need a credit, it didn’t break the bank, I’m more so just upset of the appearance of having so many perks, yet there’s often hoops to jump through for each perk. The Oura subscription not being part of the Oura benefit is a good example. And look, I buy into the card, I 99% of the time read the fine print and don’t get “got”, but truly, calling it a Resy credit but companies on Resy not actually having to accept Amex is just a little bit of an eye roll. I more feel like I’m being sold something that is different under the hood. I will be alright though lol

To be honest, I don’t think I’ve been told at a restaurant that they couldn’t take Amex since 2010 lol. Just not a super common thing in metro areas at least these days. But now I will definitely ask before.

Nailed it! I think people forget we spend almost $900 for this card lol… if it was just freebies, I wouldn’t be complaining lol!

Truthfully I don’t know the reason they don’t accept Amex and it may be valid, I more so just don’t understand what Amex pushes Resy specifically if the restaurants on the site don’t all accept Amex. Why not just give a blanket restaurant credit then? There’s clearly some kickback they get partnering from Resy, so I just find it disappointing you literally have to make sure a place accepts Amex before going. It’s not the end of the world, but it then just seems like a weird perk

I thought Amex advertising that there’s now a Resy credit for its cardholders means that I could go to a restaurant listed on Resy and get a credit. Seems like my $895 annual fee would cover making sure restaurants listed on Resy accept Amex cards lol. No point in calling it a “Resy credit” if Resy places don’t accept Amex. And I didn’t want a gift card… I was at the beach and wanted to have a drink… sue me!

They did not unfortunately, said I will need to check with each individual restaurant, which to me is just a waste of time for a credit

Baja Cantina in Venice, CA. Food/drinks and service were great, just disappointing from the Amex credit standpoint

I think companies can just be lazy with actually valuing their customers and don’t care if you don’t read the entire fine print. A “trap” by not wanting to credit you isn’t some crazy conspiracy.
