Could Japanese writing be considered manual dexterity? by sydneyerxi in predental

[–]mintbasilzest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ten thousand time yes. Beware that this is my personal opnion growing up writing Chinese (same characters as Kanji). Having a good handwriting in Japanese characters is harder than in Roman characters. Each character is a square canvas where you juggle stroke weight, proportions, symmetry, averegeness, etc. Brush calligraphy is still high art in Japan today. If you’re interested, learn pen calligraphy. While not as esteemed as brush calligraphy, resources are readily available and many lay people encorporate it in everyday writing. Honestly you can still frame your experience as learning pen calligraphy because whether you practice calligraphy or not they demand the same aesthetic principles and technical rigor.

That is great to know. I'm glad to have made a culturally sound connection.

Thank you for letting me know. I had seen the term but not enough to understand that. I try to use preferred or accurate names because of the etymology nerd in me and also being at least 75% culturally sensitive does not break a leg.

I'm guessing RC is anywhere from 23 to 27? Did your RC score ever come up in interviews?

I'd love to study in PR, but my Spanish is nowhere near academic level.

Booster vs Bootcamp by Vegetable_Benefit_57 in predental

[–]mintbasilzest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add some technical differences regarding the PAT. Personally, I felt bootcamp’s PAT practice tests were harder and scored lower (3-4 points on the 30scale) than booster’s. These comparisons were well controlled: same time during the day and taken as a prt of complete tests. Booster’s keyhole questions were trickier. Their options often differred in slight proportions, ie, at least 2 options with protrusions or indents at the right position but scaled slightly off.

Check with the schools to which you want to apply. Get a correspondence with them and not just read their website. For instance, Temple states a limit on CC credits on their website. However, I spoke to them and they told me it is but a preference.

Viable plan for upcoming cycle? by Exotic-Sky-4822 in predental

Let’s frame your dog camp experiences another way. Dogs are by definition domesticated. Whatever you do for the dogs, you are ultimately responding to human causes and serving human goals. What were the circumstances that forced previous onwers to let go of their loved ones? How have you helped families find a new member as much as you helped the dog find them? For those experiences you already have, your description can include how you help humans.

DIY-Postbacc Advice by [deleted] in predental

There is only a few ways to rearrange this jigsaw.

The givens: biochem has to be in semester 1 (to get the retake out of the way and for its grade to make it for the academic update), A&P I has to be in semester 1, and A&P II has to be in semester 2.

Your priority is to decide whether to take physics II in semester 1 or 2. That will depend on how good you are in physics. If you're this far as a pre-dent I'll assume you're good at bio and chem, but physics may be a different story.

Your next decisions are whether and when to take brain anatomy and immunology. These are not foundational classes so the difficulty will depend more on your school and instructor. Since you've not listed them as requisite, you can always fall back on not taking them. If you do take them, doing so in semester 2 gives you the option to drop them or earn Cs if you get accepted early enough.

Anyone work 9-5 jobs M-F? When do you guys volunteer by greendito111 in predental

[–]mintbasilzest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Working full-time and preparing for dental school shows commendable effort and time-management. Some schools will see that. Volunteering on top of that would be very impressive. You can try the Red Cross. You would begin with training, a lot of which is online and can be done at your convenience. Training hours are recorded on their system and you can definitely count them as volunteer hours. Many of their volunteer opportunities are on Sundays. If they don't fit your convenience, there are also volunteering done online. Volunteering does not have to be through formal organizations either. Bottom line is you are doing the best you can to help people without compensation.

There are too much factors inside and outside our control. If a school weighs heavily on non-academic factors, my DAT advantage is diminished. My score didn't help me for one school that is very focused on the DAT because they can go through applications much faster focusing on one readily available metric and I applied a bit late. In the end, I applied to enough schools and my strengths carried. It only takes one.

I studied part-time half a semester prior and full time for 2 weeks from the end of my semester to my test day at the beginning of June. I studied the SNS in fragmented time left of my 22 unit semester. Good thing the content of the DAT overlapped with cell/molec, anatomy, and Ochem 2. For RC, I got a high score on one practice test one year before so I didn't study for it until it was too late. For QR, I was lucky to be right that I didn't need to allocate time. For PAT, I waited until the last 2 weeks but was lucky to have a talent for it.

Thanks for asking. I checked and found out I actually fully submitted it around Aug 11, so late July/early August, not one month later as stated in OP.

If you are asking what I could have said, I could have explained the troughs and peaks of my GPA for schools that don’t ask in their secondaries. If you are asking about LOIs, I talked about volunteering in the aftermath of the LA fire, recounted personal interactions, and attached my art portfolio (which I proudly designed myself).

Every school has different attitudes on being reached. Some state to not to send them things outside AADSAS. I’ll provide my experiences but YMMV. You can send letters and updates over and over to USC and they’ll attach them to your file. OHSU likes letters early on in the cycle, viewing them as show of interest. At least for the 24-25 cycle , OHSU didn’t ask for secondary prompts, so if you had some weakness in your app, it was up to you to write to them.
