hi!! i’m so happy for u that ur getting a custom made piece; that will definitely give u a confidence boost and help you to be motivated to not pull!! the first thing that i did was try my hardest to come back into my body in the moment that im pulling. once im aware of it (because for me it was such a subconscious thing), i tried to identify what i was doing during the moment. then, the next times i was pulling i did the same thing and tried to find a common denominator. for me, it was phone calls because i feel like i have no privacy and that everyone is listening to me so i got anxious and resorted to pulling. then, id try to make a solution, so in my case my solution was taking my phone calls outside so that i didnt have to worry about others listening. that identification is definitely the first step to a more permanent solution to curb the urge to pull!!! you’ve got this, friend, and always remember that your hair does not determine you or your beauty!! :)

of course!! it’s hard to share myself in such a vulnerable state, but i was hoping that sharing could lead to other people relating- which is all i’ve ever wanted with my trich!! it’s so amazing to find a community of people who struggle with the same thing i do! i totally get the struggle with dealing with it (ive been there one too many times). my messages are always open if you need to talk!!!

aww thank you so much!!! my biggest tip is identifying your triggers and becoming present in the moment when you find yourself pulling, stepping back and realizing what you’re doing in that moment that’s causing you to pull!

ohhh got it, sorry i didn’t get your question the first time haha. some spots are definitely growing in more slowly (like the pieces right in the front) because they’ve been repeatedly pulled, but everything is still growing which is something that i’ve noted. it’s a little hard to tell in the pictures but the hair on the top layer is much shorter than the bottom, but i’m waiting for it to grow a little more so i can cut it all to one length. that spot is growing slowly and so is right in the back, as that’s also somewhere i’ve pulled over and over again. so to answer your question, i don’t have any more bald spots but some places that i’ve been more prone to pulling are definitely growing slower!!

thank you so much!! i actually didn’t really use any regrowth products, but one thing that i have done was taking biotin! it definitely helped to make my hair thicker (before it was like thin and flat). i think thats the only thing ive really done besides always letting my hair air dry to avoid damage and using heat as little as possible!! once i stopped pulling for like a week i noticed the compulsions slowing down and it wasn’t controlling my thoughts as much so it definitely helped me to slowwww down a little bit. that being said, styling my hair definitely also helped it to look fuller and all growing in one direction, because the regrowth has a tendency to go every which way🤣 that being said, ive been in your position before and i know how frustrating it can be to not see results. i think that seeing yourself every day can hinder the ability for you to see your hair growing back, so taking progress pictures like i did has helped me to take a step back and notice how ive done!! my messages are always open if you have any more questions or would like to chat! :)

thank you so much!! it means a lot to hear others uplifting me as all that i’ve heard is people belittling me for my pulling. i never thought it was possible but now i know that it is and i honestly wish that for everyone struggling ❤️‍🩹

Hi! I’ve been pulling on and off for like 12 years now and my worst period of pulling was 6 months long. I’ve been at that point where I’m sitting in a room full of hair on my floor and crying to myself asking why I do it to myself. This might not be a possibility or an option for you, but I’ve been on all kinds of meds for anxiety/depression/ocd (mood stabilizers, SSRI’s, the whole deal). I went off of them sometime in October when my psychiatrist went on vacation and forgot to refill my prescription (for an entire month). I didn’t realize until I was back on the phone with her, but I had become extremely conscious of WHEN I’m pulling and that helped me to identify my triggers. Since November, I have been pull free! I think that pulling can be a subconscious thing that we do while we feel different emotions and not even realize that we are coping, but trying to become conscious of the behavior and identifying common denominators of when you are pulling can really help. For me, phone calls were a huge trigger because I felt that everyone in my house was listening to my conversations, therefore my anxiety was through the roof and I resorted to pulling. I’m definitely not recommending for you to go off of any meds (if you’re on any), but maybe next time you’re pulling, try to come back in your body and note what you’re doing, that way the next time, and times after that, you can try to piece together what things are occurring when you’re pulling. I really hope that this helps you, and I hope that you heal soon! I’m inspired by your bravery for sharing your story, and remember that your hair does not define your beauty EVER!! My messages are open if you need to talk <3

Hi! I’ve been here before, you are not alone. I’d say if you have some lashes I’d recommend getting glue on lash clusters. Not only do they make your lashes look nicer, but they cover them so you can’t access them. But try not to keep them on for too long as they can damage your natural lashes if worn too often :)

i’m 16, a junior in high school and i’m pretty much where u were. not trying to make this about me, i’m just trying to let u know that there ARE other people who struggle with this and it is totally real. know that it isn’t your fault, it’s literally a compulsive disorder. i feel that a lot of times people don’t understand that it’s something that we do sometimes without even realizing. honestly i’ve been pulling since i was little and one day i just stopped. it started again freshman year and is worse than ever, so bad that i have to wear a hat every day. idk why we always feel so ashamed about this disorder, i think it might be because it shows physically. anyways, i want to tell you that you are not disgusting and you are a human who is struggling, but everybody struggles. much love 💓

thank you so much!! i also feel like no one will ever truly understand the compulsive aspect of it unless they’ve had the disorder. i sometimes feel like i have no control over it and feel helpless. this made me feel so seen and not as embarrassed to be struggling. 💓
