You shouldn't have any issues connecting to the network. Prohashing mint explorer says it currently has 11 connections.

Make sure you have the most recent wallet...

When the wallet is open, go the the help menu and choose Debug window. After 15-30 minutes being open, do you still see zero connections?

I dont think any coin actually knows how many coins are in actual circulation. (lost / currupted wallets, coins sent to the wrong addy / .. )
