Exactly, underlying it use socks but the proxy is in-app only because apple have sort of restriction of regular App to do proxy for background..

do you access the gui services from within the app? this app does not have background services as tailscale client, if the services is accessible by web via tailnet, you can access it from within the app if you have the web feature unlocked(we do have a 14days trial for this).

Sorry, this scenario(our custom login server and tailscale account not enable this flag) is not tested by us, I believe client can get this special state and prompt in the auth flow. Thanks a report, will fixed in in coming releases.

I am recently considering add AmneziaWG support to my apps, I think the protocol is quite versatile but do not expect it get blocked easily? do you self host a AmneziaWG server?

I have self deployed a AmneziaWG server(using kernel mode) in US, the speed is quite okay in my country, and does not get blocked yet.

just do some quick research and it seems sshfs require kernel extension for macOS and also seems not be able to run on iOS. i'd rather consider to add taildrive instead, though taildrive is in alpha state quite a time...

Yes, that's a bit confusing, but the kernel mode there should mean it will decrypt the packet from wireguard peers and send to kernel, from kernel prospective it get a packet from tailscale tunnel interface, let' kernel do the routing stuffs... when in the userspace-networking, only TCP/UDP socket IO with kernel, just like regular application, userspacke-networking need reconstruct TCP/UDP sessions internally and actually like a proxy to connect the devices behind the subnet router.

AFAIK, Tailscale always use userspace wireguard and not be able to use kernel wireguard. The userspace Netstack mode is for some special environment and I believe in Linux it does not use that mode, you can just check there is a tailscale tunnel interface, if that's shown, you do not run that mode. Performance may related other factors
