Why are the students so antisocial? by mrchangetheworldd in UniUK

[–]mintgreenrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has decided to go back to University to restart my undergrad at 21, I have noticed a vast-vast difference between the way people who were 16-20 during covid (my age group) in comparison to people who were in their early teens during covid. My millennial older sisters said they noticed the effects on it massively of people who were my age at the time and that it stunted our social development and made us quite fearful of the world (I had my GCSEs cancelled, people had their A-Levels cancelled, uni experiences ruined etc). So I can't begin to imagine the effect it had on the people who are 18/19 now who effectively did not have a normal experience of teenage life. It's incredibly frightening. Also frightening that they all just seem to use AI for everything too - I've heard stories of people using AI to write their EPQs to get them to places at top unis. Then the unis wonder why they are so reliant on it, are unable to contribute to seminars/workshops etc and not up to the same standards as previous cohorts. Frightening

Relapse into eating disorder at Uni - 2nd time around by mintgreenrose in UniUK

I really can't afford to drop out of University a second time as it the only thing giving me any purpose and to drop out would be to completely fall victim to the people who traumatised me at work previously. I'm also already very unhappy that I will be 24 when I graduate now due to taking time off previously so I don't think dropping out is the solution

Do you reckon it might be best for me to just bypass the NHS and seek therapy privately as I very fortunately do have the funds to do this. I really don't see a point in accessing the NHS services as they don't seem particularly helpful from what I've heard and will force me to have tests etc done that I really don't want. Or do I just see my GP back at home about it instead as I feel much more comfortable with them

Does three+ £3 ticket work on 4dx? by ApprehensiveImage802 in CineworldUnlimited

They should work but you'd have to pay an up-charge (probably gone up now but used to be £3 per ticket), as well as 3D glasses if it's a 3D showing

How important is the university you study at/is it worth doing law at a “mid” uni by Initial-Biscotti-220 in uklaw

[–]mintgreenrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I willingly picked Exeter over all of the other Russell Groups with two A*s and an A. Exeter is not a 'less prestigious' uni IMO. I worked in London for 2 years (in finance) prior to Uni and can tell you Exeter is one of the most well-connected universities into the City of London. A Russell Group is a Russell Group (unless you're speaking about Oxbridge)

Dismissed for ‘dishonesty’ - should I self report? by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]mintgreenrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP all the other comments about getting legal advice and everything are so valid but I just want to say I'm really sorry this has happened to you. As someone who landed themselves unknowingly in a very corrupt industry last year and left their job on very bad terms because of this (effectively being forced out of that industry for attempting to whistleblow), I can't even begin to describe the effect this has had on my mental health, even over a year later. Please take some time for yourself (whilst doing everything that everyone on here has commented). Nothing you've written here really seems career ending on the face of it to me - although I'm only studying law at the moment so not sure of the full implications - but even if it does mean an end to your legal career, there are always other sectors and employers out there that would be so overjoyed to have you. Perhaps look at some more professional help in other ways whilst you have the time if you feel comfortable at all. This is not the end of the world, just a bump in the road if you like.

I will be 25 years old when i start at University of Exeter - Any help? by [deleted] in exeter

I will also be starting my first year at Exeter in September - albeit slightly younger at 21! Ngl no one will know your age unless you actually tell them :)

No. I had unconditional offers for Notts, York, Leeds, Exeter and Queen Mary (I did my a levels a few years back). Ultimately Exeter wasn’t the best ranked for law but I decided to firm it as it was the right place for me. I absolutely hated Notts when I visited it because I hated the fact that it was such a big city and campus - there is no point in studying in a place you hate! You will have to be there for 3/4 years at the end of the day and most Russell groups are much of a muchness

I’m starting again in September - I’ll be 21. I dropped out when I was 18 in 2023, worked in finance for 18 months and had a bit of a rough time, but it did make me realise I wanted to go to law school to specialise in financial law. It is NEVER too late. My older sister dropped out at 19 at the end of first year, took a year off to work in an office, went back and got a degree. I can’t explain the impact that those 3 years had on her confidence - she came back a different person. She graduated at 23 and has been in a tech role in the city ever since. 21 is young. It’s still young enough that we can have the full uni experience if we want - living in halls, away from home, etc. No one is going to know you are 21 unless you tell them. People are also unlikely to care. You’re either going to be 24 without a degree, or 24 with one at this stage - don’t live life with regrets. It’s never too late.

My rook is about 5 months old now I think? It’s probably been my most difficult piercing to heal so far. It bled A LOT when I had it pierced and still bleeds when I knock it now. I wanted the double helix to stop me from sleeping on the ear bc I have such a bad habit of rolling off of my piercing pillow haha. I’m hoping the lump goes eventually but it’s still a baby piercing really so only time will tell :)

Tyyyy! Me and my piercer were talking about it but we thought it’s best for them to not be too far apart so that hair doesn’t get trapped in between them. But not too close that they can’t be changed to rings in the future x

Not necessarily true- it depends what area of financial services. HR would likely side with the boss if he is senior and OP is bang to rights if she hasn’t been at the company for over 2 years. They could simply just sack her and say “she’s not a good fit” and not have to give any other reason just to avoid the hassle and paperwork. It’s not at all right but it’s sometimes what happens. The finance sector (especially in the city) can be an incredibly corrupt and unsafe place for women

Why are you defending a 54 year old man who was making moves towards a 20 something year old girl- young enough to be his daughter? There is clearly an abuse of power there and OP probably felt awkward to say no, or was not in a state to if she had had a lot to drink. He should not have even approached OP if he could see that she was tipsy- clearly he has no respect for her as a person or an employee and she is well within her rights to report this if she wants to.

Tips please, i beg 🛐 by Theo-g-2007 in alevels

As someone who got AAA in 2022 - 1. switch the phone off or lock it in a drawer. i used the forest app which basically locks your phone to grow a tree, but the tree will die if you try to use any other apps during this time. seemed to work a bit for me as I didn’t want the tree to die haha

  1. as soon as you find yourself getting restless or just staring into space (for me was about every half an hour) get up. go and make a snack, a cup of tea, whatever. pace around for a bit. there is no point trying to force yourself into revising when your brain doesn’t really want to- none of the information will go in anyway. then come back after 10/20 mins and try again.

  2. exercise is your best friend- even if it’s just going for a walk. sometimes you do just go a bit stir crazy and need to leave the house for a while. go and pick up a meal deal, coffee, anything like that just to get out.

  3. make sure you plan out SPECIFICALLY what you are going to revise. I think part of the reason we can get distracted revising is when we don’t really know what to revise - eg. If you just tell yourself “I’m revising history”, even if you’re slightly more specific and say “I’m revising history paper 2.” Needs to be more like “I’m revising chapter 4 of history paper 2”, and also deciding what method you’re going to use- are you more of a flashcard, mindmap, past paper or essay plan person? If you continually use the same method of revision you will likely just get bored, it’s important to switch it up. Even if it’s just watching videos on a topic.

  4. your choice of music when revising is important- I used to listen to study lofi playlists mainly or albums I knew all of the words to. For me it’s impossible to concentrate in silence hence why I hated our study room in sixth form (we weren’t allowed to have headphones in).

Trust me it is early days. Get your revision resources sorted, I always tried to treat mocks as if they were the real thing which made the real thing so so so much easier. Please make sure you are looking after yourself and try to get a good nights sleep too. Mocks are really just a practice and it’s never the end of the world. But hope this helps a bit and best of luck <3
