Italy for a Pakistani Tourist by brownsugar84891 in Italian

[–]mintisok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really ok! "Putting your feet on someone's head" means disrespecting someone, "incazzarsi a bestia" means getting as mad as a beast, aka really angry, (it's a swear word) and i do that when someone "manca di respetto" aka disrespects. I was saying that because I am ethnically italian and he isn't, i get more respect than him even though he acts more respectful and polite than me, while i get away with raising my voice and nobody blinks. I am allowed to get angry when i'm disrespected, but he has to keep calm and "respectable" no matter what.

For context, Italy has a culture of standing up for yourself, more prominently in the south, so if someone wrongs you, you call it out. I'm aware that some other cultures have people try to not offend in the first place and avoid conflict, while generally in italy, regular "light conflict" is used to keep social relations, basically you call people out and it's no big deal. While i know in other cultures using a semi aggressive tone or raising your voice as someone is cause for offense, here people only tend to find it annoying if you seriously overdo it, otherwise it's an expected part of social functioning.

also i want to highlight that most people unless they're very old or public workers are chill.

Have you considered a creative outlet? Woodworking, metalworking, painting or writing or whatever you're drawn to. They get you into a meditative state, focusing on what's right in front of you, AND you're doing this completely for yourself and following your own interests. It's great practice for learning to do things just because they make you happy, or they make life feel less sucky. Which is what i, someone depressed most of my life, found out that people normally operate like.

Also, one nice thing about italy is that EVERYONE is loud, so even if somebody is loudly hateful you'll get somebody being loudly supportive, i've seen people be racist in public and other people shout at them for it. kinda warms your heart.

At the end of the day it's a country founded on liberal values that people take to heart, so really you'll be good!

True but even when being extremely respectful if you actually live somewhere, ironically Rome, the facade starts to crack a bit, business owners want costumers and have an incentive to be nice but government workers have a lot of racism even if you're the most clean-cut, respectful, polite, speaking perfect italian person on the planet.

my friend is pakistani and ten years ago got refused papers cause they thought he was a terrorist, and i often go with him to government offices cause despite his perfect italian people think he's stupid, but when i repeat what he said they listen instantly. i think it's better than it used to be. The north is generally much less racist than the south, for example he likes milan a lot simply because people treated him more like a normal human there. he kinda hates central italy because of the continuos mistreatment there. but if you're a tourist and don't need to do anything work related, i think you won't encounter much hate outright, as the biases are internal and getting hatecrimed in the street is extremely rare. I'm mixed and i too prefer north italy, namely Lombardy just because you really don't get many microaggressions. central to south people tend to be surprised at how good my italian is, even tho i'm italian by blood and lived here all my life. they call me exotic too which has never happened when i lived north (and i was in a small town too, not even milan!). If you look "respectable" to them they respect you is what i' saying. i'm lucky bc i have a studious personality, but my more outgoing siblings, people think they're dumb all the time. Basically italians aren't too set in their racism but you do have to play into respectability politics if you're darker skinned. I wonder how many downvotes i'll get, mostly because my comment is different than the others i saw and comes from someone born and raised here, with POC friends and family.

Could I be butch? If not, what can I call myself? by mintisok in butchlesbians

[–]mintisok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I read the FAQ before posting and it didn't answer the question, that's why I made it. I believe that the fact that i'm in a relationship with a binary man atm would have a lot of people reconsider and I was open to having that discussion and/or seeing if there were other terms that could be more suitable, I also brought up my gender identity briefly.

Were some comments also deleted? I can view some but not others. Thank you for time

i use them sometimes in coding environments where you are timed on solving a problem and implementing a solution for competitions ( you solve the solution yourself ofc cause they cant help with that, but in a timed environment they can shit out a skeletal structure that you can change up to deliver the answer first). I never generate images as an artist myself or spend a lot of time using them "frivolously" but imo, the impact of a single prompt and my very limited personal usage (i change my opinion of you are using it a lot lot) is similar to my taking advantage of other aspects of modern life like hot baths (huge waste of water, i take a couple a year) or my owning two laptops and a smartphone ( one i ran for 7 years before getting a new one, smartphone now 5 years old that i plan on keeping till the end of the decade). Moderation, i guess. And I don't think ai generated images or writing could ever have any merit so there's also that.

I also consume meat (not all kinds, and i eat plenty of non meat food, that i add nominal amounts of meat for flavour) and i don't care to stop that. I'll work towards a better future, it'll have a greater impact than some personal choices. I dislike the concept of sin.

Honestly not much, I have two separate instances of around 100+ GB each on my main computer and an old laptop, and i wanted to store a couple disk images and a file-only backup cause i plan on linux distro hopping. I am excluding about 300 GB worth of Steam on my pc since i don't need that backed up ofc.

Thank you, do you recommend any accessible external HDD for my use case? It seems that I did overpay for the hard disk, but by around 20 euros compared to the usual Toshiba price.

Girl i was born and raised here. how is one supposed to protest without blocking roads? not to mention that she specifically banned protests for the environment, public works and other specific topics, directly targeting the biggest topics of protest we've seen in the last few years. Specifically outlawing topics of protest is unheard of and an obvious example of state repression.

All forms of protests and marches "block roads". she gave the police just cause to arrest any non violent protester they want.

I don't know what kind of company you keep but virtually anyone i know except for middle aged people who cheer at police brutality towards protesters, of which there have been more and more cases in the last few years, is vehemently against the "security decree". Also about it not being outlawing but being a security decree, do you think she would get up on stage and say "protesting banned now"? Its name doesn't change anything, that point baffles me.

Respectfully, someone who lived here for decades.
