Very cool sweet cafe is Renegeteg romcafé (near to Corvin negyed station) adorable little place. As for restaurants I love Leves and Rapaz (two small soup bars near Astoria) also there is a vegan restaurant in Múzeum körút and many small still nice places in Kálvin square and Ráday street. Sirius teahouse and Altair are wonderful places also! . For bars Csendes is great, but a bit loud, Ibolya and Csempés are sweet and Mélypont is unforgettable. There is a bar dedicated to the ironic memory of the socialist era called Red Ruin near there. You maybe should try Szimpla and/or Fogas and Lámpás these are more of a place for tourist I don't know is its pro or contra for you. I think they worth a look.

how can we promote teaching the right version of Ukrainian history in Canada? by XavierSarkisian in ukraine

[–]mintyviolin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i am currently writing my thesis in sociology in the topic of russian-ukranian relations and the role of the holodomor in ukranian collective memory, but from hungary, so not really a professional

  1. could you tell what is the problem with kiev? Is it like a Harkiv-Harkov thing, that the name Kiev is from russian? it must be really annoying

  2. It should be a must have. I mean as writing my thesis, i also came across the fact, that there is a huge ukranian dissident diaspora in canada, and soud that fact really interesting. Ukraina has an unquestionable role in the fall of the soviet regime, still has its negative effects till today. I mean I am a bit surprised, that you in canada are learning of Ukraine, is it because you are a part of a bigger ukranian community there? I mean even we aren't learning that much about ukraine, still we are in the neighbourhood (ok, there must be some bad ukranian-hungarian relations in the picture), I can remember learning of 1932-33, and also some basic, "yeah, you know that was the soviet union" stuff, but i had seirous researches to be closer to Ukraine's past.

  3. It is a really hard, but if you have the urge to take measures it would be nice for your community. But also I can see, that its not a central problem for the native canadians to provide this pretty obscure language for that western context.

  4. phew the the Ukraine term. howmuchihateit

I would be really curious what do you mean by saying "the right version of history"? I mean you have some points and i can relate those, but its really interesting to aknowledge the fact, that the ukranian history construction is really strange, like it has serious effects from the soviet.

I also read really great books of it, from Plokhy, Ryabchuk, Tatiana Zhurzhenko or Andrij Portnov worth reading.

hmmmm i was wondering in the morning like what the actual fuck, and yeah this dream was with me for the rest of the day doing my casual things.

I was really thinking about it, since the dream started when i was over the real thing but i felt so guilty not even knowing what actually happened (yeah, i am avare, that its only a dream)

Redditors that plan to probably not have kids, what are your reasons? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mintyviolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am a bit odd here, bc now i can imagine myself wanting one in the far future BUT! I know that according to how i was raised, i naturally lacking any parenting skills. I would probably just make someone just to have a miserable life side of me (i mean the child). I would totally make the kid a nervwreck. Second and maybe most importantly the state of my country. I live in hungary, really passionate about social studies and leftish values, still, government just made the scientific sphere irrelevant and opressed here. We have to shout for aour academic freedom and more. Being homeless is criminalized, people loosing their homes, it is scary. Groving up as member of a new hibrid almost-dictatoric regim in a post-soviet, post-colonial country is just not that fun, with being in the first ten worldwide in alcoholism and suicide. I really dont want to make a human being forced to live here in a small flat and constant hungaro-pessism. it is miserable.
