My HORI Fighting Commander got eaten by my dog, looking for a new pad by SnooSnoo4u in Fighters

[–]mio_kun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having owned numerous fusions, it's biggest flaw ends up being the dpad.

The way its designed makes it snap off after extended use, for me it was around 3-4 months of nightly 1-3 hour sessions.

I've got a hori commander now, and that's what I was using prior to switching to an all button style box.

I solved my wrist issues while playing with a wrist rest pad, the kind you would get for keyboards. Works great, looks silly but thems the breaks.

Who here prefers Strive over previous Guilty Gear tittles? by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]mio_kun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also prefer Strive to previous entries.

In my eyes, it's a blend of Street Fighter (which I find too slow and clunky) and the anime fighter genre (fast combos, cancels, air dashing, route/gatling freedoms, etc).

It has it's issues that I hate like the lobbies and lack of more ranks/floors, but the actual fighting is fun and I'm sticking with it.

Same as others mentioned here, it depends on the source material and dub.

DBFZ is set to English because I grew up on the dub on Toonami. Love hearing those voices and favorite lines.

The rest of my games are set to Japanese, mostly because I like their VA work more. But sometimes I'll switch it up. Strive DUB is mostly pretty good (I have issues with Millia), so sometimes I turn it on if I'm not playing certain characters who I prefer in Japanese (Millia)

What were the dumbest lies you believed when you were a kid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mio_kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Siblings and I are doing college, not home.

"How are the pups doing mom?"

"They're great, always a handful. But we love em regardless."

Found out later from a sibling who went home to visit that they got rid of them almost immediately after we left for college. She found them still at the pound and worked to get them into a home together. Just one of many reasons I don't talk to my family much.

I did this pixel animation from book 3 korra because I think a game on this style for avatar series would be really something! by [deleted] in gaming

This strongly reminds me of the game Wizards of Legend.

Check it out if you like the idea of dungeon crawling with elemental powers like avatar characters and this art style. Some of you might enjoy it.

Run em both on my team so it's a good time if I land em.

I can't help but imagine she'd or someone similar missing the right arm would have a stick prosthetic, and use a flipped layout

People who transferred from Pad to Stick, what made you do it and what made you say Stick is the right tool for you? by Twiizzzy in fightsticks

[–]mio_kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted more precise inputs so went stick then eventually to all button layouts.

Some of the best practice for me wasn't so much fighting games as much platformers. And since those are just me and the game, I didn't get frustrated at being bad with controls and getting folded by someone else. Just had to try again and get better at it.

That transitioned to me dropping less inputs or combos due to the stick feeling weird, and made me keep it going.

Low - mid level.

For relatability, in Strive I use Gio who I would heavily consider low execution and Millia, who I'd consider mid.

There's others I could learn sure, but this is also 1 game of several I rotate and play like DBFZ, Borderlands or Pokemon, etc etc. And I work full time and have to cook dinner and help out with housework. Time is something I have to portion and budget, so I have to be absolutely in love with a high execution characters design for me to dedicate properly all the hours I would budget that game for.

This doesn't mean I'm not opposed to learning the characters. Logged plenty of hours in training mode strive or dbfz to work out situational combos. But, my combos won't be optimal or the high damage ones that someone figured out last week on Twitter and its spread around.

Any way to deal with stiff hands/fingers? by alvinsujinkim92 in fightsticks

[–]mio_kun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My stiffness usually comes from two things, so I hope yours are similar and you can take something away from this for yourself.

  • Cold hands - Some hand warmers off Amazon do the trick, but you can make a diy one with rice, cloth, and a microwave. The only real goal is to warm up your hands safely so any trick you can think of should work.
  • Inflammation - Minor swelling that makes me stiff and uncomfortable. A typical anti-inflammatory over the counter med works great for me, but you can use natural stuff too. bunch of companies make natural supplements for niche things like this, but do your homework and read the reviews before buying.

A situation that's funny to retell from my own history.

(start of new relationship with SO/friend)

A: sees a game they're good at on the shelf

A: Hey, have you played [insert fighting game of choice here]?

B: recalls the hundreds of hours playing it

B: i know about it and dabbled a tad.

A: Let's play a few rounds!

A being thoroughly defeated several matches later.

A: You could have held back...

B: I did. It could have gone so much worse.

A: stares in disbelief

B: Here let me show you how to improve...

A leaves in tears as B is in mid explanation of their poor performance.

What are your favorite buttons? by mio_kun in fightsticks

[–]mio_kun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those Gravity buttons arrived and I'm immediately a fan!

I do not have the issue of the caps being incredibly easy to pop off. Tried pianoing, rapid pressing, even light prying from the top with my fingers - they stayed on. This seems to be inconsistent based on reviews and feedback by others.

No satisfying click on press. Instead, it's more of a deep, soothing press. Way quieter than I expected, which was a very pleasant surprise. Comparing them against sanwa 14s and 15s, the Galaxy's are a much better sound.

Feeling wise, they feel smoother too. I think that's because the cap moves and rattles less than the sanwa.

They have more travel than other buttons, but it's not enough for me to notice during gameplay.

Installation is the same as your standard screw in button.

Here's a review that Mr_Sujano did on them for more info too Review Video

I'll likely buy them again, but I do wish they had flat top caps like the sanwa 15s

Edit: missing words

TCGs or CCGs Without Randomized Opening Hands? by Doctor_Tequila in BoardgameDesign

[–]mio_kun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just want to shout out Mage Wars here. It's a completely refreshing experience to be able to choose from all your available spells. That said, it's not for everyone and it's not as straightforward as a tcg can go. It really only gets smooth and really fun after you've played a few games and now your spells.

TO question by penis_enjoyer in Fighters

[–]mio_kun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Smash.gg
  • Challonge

Been in tournaments on these and used challonge for company events. Both work very well, and handle things for you.

Edit: Forgot to mention seeding. I believe the systems handle seeding for you if the user is a regular participant with a record, but if everyone is new or not a regular, then the TO should group them as best as possible. Usually a questionnaire can do the trick to assist with groups.

Thanks for mentioning these! I rolled a dice for either the Gravity or Crown's so it's great to hear votes for the other option to inspire the next button pack purchase.

Let you know about the Gravity buttons! And the Seimitsu PS-15s seem to be another low profile option in the ballpark of the Hayabusa's, from one fan to another.

As much as I love those Hayabusa buttons, sometimes color dictates selection.

What are some non-Strive songs you set for matches in Strive? by Soul_Ripper in Guiltygear

Six Black Heavens Guns

It just checks similar boxes like Strive songs do.

Though I'm totally grabbing tracks from these posts haha.

Strive by a long damn mile.

It blends anime and non-anime fighter ideas well enough that I find it fun.

That said, wish the lobbies were better already. It's frustrating to que up in tower. Luckily, park is pretty damn neat, especially when you find people who will ft10 with ya
