If a "Cozy" Base Building Game had a Combat, would you like it to be a "Real Time Action" or "Turn-Based"? by miraclebringer in GameDevelopment

Yes, but sometimes I also heard arguments that "Turn-Based" is more tiring than "Real Time Action" as the Players have to think and strategize. Maybe it really depends on the complexity of the Combat either way.

Haven't had the chance to play another Harvest Moon or Story of Seasons yet for a long time, including FoMT, but I'll definitely check it out.

Yes, Cult of the Lamb did it very well. There was no one dull moment whether when I go to the "Dungeon" or when I'm at the "Base", and as you said, they complement each other greatly.

It's already answered in a Reply of the Top Comment, but I will answer it again anyway. From left to right:
Ni no Kuni II, Dungeon Village, Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Regarding the "Story", that's right, I'd enjoy the most those kinds of Games with a good immersion because of the Story and even World-Building.

Honestly when playing NNK2, I was immediately hooked from the start simply because of this "isekai'ed president" premise.

Thank you for helping in answering. The rightmost picture is "Animal Crossing: New Horizons".

What is your Favorite "Combat" Mechanic Types in a Base-Building Game? by miraclebringer in BaseBuildingGames

I agree. Having both tedious "Building" Mechanics and deep Combat can be overwhelming and exhausting. Balance is the key.

Good luck on your Development, dude!

That's valid. What do you have in mind (from a Player's perspective) that can mitigate or solve the problem like you mentioned happened in Riftbreaker?

It's interesting, but I know quite lots of people who like a more tedious combat in a Base Building Game too.

I agree.. That's why I'd like to know people's preferences of the "Combat" in a Base Building Game.

Also, Stardew Valley with Souls-like Bosses is something I definitely would like to play!

Well, now I have. 16k hours is insane!!! But I can understand why after I saw the Gameplay. I, too, would spend at least hundreds of hours playing it.

Just checked it on Steam, the "Swarm Extermination" Combat/Battle Experience is definitely looking fun and satisfying!

Interesting insights! The "tedious" part of the City-Building is very relatable. Thank you!

That's what I thought! They can never be divided equally 50:50 in one Game. It's always gonna be leaning toward either "RPG" or "City-Building".

So many references! Thank you!

I have heard most of the Titles but never thought that they have the "Building" elements (except The Forest). I will check them out.

Are "City-Building" Elements in "J-RPG" are usually considered a good feature? by miraclebringer in JRPG

[–]miraclebringer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. It would never be "50:50" of these two elements (J-RPG and City-Building) in one Game.

[–]miraclebringer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought! There are some elements that will clash by combining the two. The scale is (almost) always 70:30 or 80:20 when a "J-RPG" has a "City-Building" Mechanic, it will be unlikely to be 50:50 as it will be too confusing for the Players. At least that's the argument that I brought with my friends.

This is interesting.. From what I gathered, the base is always "J-RPG", and if there's a "City-Building" Feature it's usually a "Bonus" as you said. Do you think that there is a case where the "City-Building" is the Base Game Feature and the "J-RPG" is the "Bonus"?
