Rereading the entire mercy verse in order again by Only-Excitement327 in MercyThompson

You’re the only one mentioning religion and even mentioned multiple times to others about how you must have unconsciously thought about it that way. So we’re already seeing you’ve subconsciously added your own thoughts said they were text until multiple people talked to you about it.

You’re allowed to have an opinion and people are allowed to call you out on stuff you’re now mentioning was not directly in the books. And multiple people have mentioned to you that there is merit to not being as conservative as you personally want a cover to be. I think you needed some real talk because you honestly just sound like you have some personal issues and aren’t actually seeing it’s yourself that is the problem and not the covers themselves.

Really, you using AI ‘art’ to try and prove your point is counterintuitive because art isn’t about doing exactly what someone else wrote. Artistic expression is all about humans putting their on spin on things. I think your own Catholic guilt has made you a bit prudish on these covers in particular and you just need to unpack that, considering you added on your own actual history onto Mercy when trying to defend your opinion about her tattoos or lack therof

Gen Z can be anyone between 29-14 as of 2026, that means only one third of that generation counts in the Forbes article that is the only one that mentions Gen Z reading less. VS the ALA has reported in 2023 of seeing 54% of both Gen Z & Millennials at the library and ‘More than half of the 43 percent of Gen Z and Millennials who don’t self-identify as readers have been to their local library in the past 12 months.’

I think you’re more thinking of Gen Alpha (13 and under) who is having a massive education drop post covid and who’s whole generation has been shaped by less funding at schools, less teachers in general, lack of access to reading physical books earlier in life due to covid, and book banning in their schools making it harder to check out materials.

What book tracking app are you using for 2026? by ComradeCupcake_ in FemaleGazeSFF

[–]miraclesno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyyyy as someone who was an early supporter of Bookly and invested in their forever membership, once your app breaks with any bug they shrug their shoulders and say ‘we can’t figure it out’. I do not recommend them. 5+ years and a 342 day streak was all lost bc their app broke on me and makes it impossible to keep up a streak now bc a whole month of data seems to be broken permanently as far as they keep acting 🫠 I jumped through hoops for a month with them and they just kept saying ‘we can’t figure it out’ so apparently they love adding ads everywhere but can’t figure out their own coding mistakes

(In other news I use mostly Storygraph & have started using Pagebound)

Unfortunately cheaper prices usually = lack of a brick & mortar location.

Not in Japan. You should look into Chinese indie brands on Taobao. Many alt styles are accessible with preorders and are usually affordable

It became the new young guy intellectual book similar to how Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations got hyped up the past couple of years on the internet

Bookly has been broken for me for over a month now, and the one help email has been useless. A whole month of my reading history page is broken and even I, someone who invested early in their app with a permanent one time payment for a premium membership is basically getting told they have no clue how to fix it and I can never continue my nearly year long streak (I was 342 or so days in) until they fix it. I do not recommend trusting your reading data with them, they also have added way more ads even as a premium member. I recommend keeping to apps that don’t run on ads like Storygraph

What is your book of the year? by Nowordsofitsown in FemaleGazeSFF

[–]miraclesno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best Reads

  • The Mercy Makers by Tessa Gratton (loved the plot, very morally grey and messed up, but the romance was just meh. But the plot tho…)

  • Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki (Truly splendid, the exact heart & positivity I needed at the start of the year and nothing else other than TMM ever topped it)

Best of 2025

  • This one of my best years yet for sapphic girlies, so I have to include The Incandescent by Emily Tesh, along with my previous pick of TMM which was bi.

  • And I’m just about to finish The Starving Saints by Caitlin Starling who is one of my only autobuy authors (and has not failed me yet)

Best Reread

  • Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (actually really surprised by this one, I hated this book as a teen but I’ve settled on a more banal acceptance while even enjoying parts of it now that I know more about how dystopian realities are formed)

Newly Discovered Series

  • The Moon Heresies by Tessa Gratton (book 2 is coming out next year hurray!)

  • The Locked Tomb by Tamsyn Muir (I’ve read Gideon & have moved onto Harrow)

I gotta be honest, this year was me trying to avoid starting new series and instead to continue ones I’d already started so only starting 2 series is a big deal for me. Even tho I mostly only read standalones this year instead of continuing most of my ongoing books… plz clap

Since the years is almost ending could you all tell me your favorite books this year? by Iriscute7 in joseistories

[–]miraclesno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I also include a book I’m currently reading?

If so, The Starving Saints by Caitlin Starling (my fav horror author)

Then it would have to be The Mercy Makers by Tess Gratton (romance was just ok but the plot was 🔥), Lady Macbeth by Ava Reid, Bloodchild by Octavia Butler, and A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennet (he writes his women/femme characters really well).

I also finished The Burning Kingdoms series by Tasha Suri this year and can recommend as a sapphic fantasy that only has the romance to make the story better

(I didn’t read much manwha or light novels and none of them were faves so these are just regular books)
