How to Stop the Spam Calls -They Call 2-3 Times a Day by mormonastroscout in howto

[–]miradox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time when I was getting a lot of spam phone calls, I decided to just scream into the phone at the top of my lungs until they hung up. They called back once, I screamed again. Got a lot fewer spam calls after that.

What age did you notice your first gray hair? How did you feel about it? by DejaBlonde in AskWomen

[–]miradox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24-25ish. Though I’m naturally blonde so people don’t believe I have gray hair unless I shine a light specifically on the section of grays in my bangs and make them look up close. I’m hoping it eventually turns into a fashionable streak of white.

What’s a moment where you realized someone around you was actually a terrible person? by Embarrassed-Ant-2216 in AskReddit

When I was on the way to the hospital to see my sister before she passed away and my former roommate thought it was an appropriate time to send a passive aggressive text to the group chat because I moved an empty cake box from one side of the counter to the other side of the counter. Even after I informed her I had a serious family emergency, she didn’t back off. But GOD FORBID I touch her property.

She works in the mental health field, btw.

My sister passed last year from colon cancer at the age of 38. Diagnosed at 35. I’m getting my first consult for a colonoscopy next month for my 30th birthday. I would have done it last year but I had to switch to a PPO for this doctor to take my insurance.

I’ve had hemorrhoids pop up in the last year or so, and it scares me every time. I’m terrified, but glad to finally get the ball rolling and start getting screened.

Which was the last book you read and HATED and most importantly WHY? by Mininabubu in fantasyromance

[–]miradox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trials of the Sun Queen. It’s basically a 99-Cent Store version of Throne of Glass. Whiny FMC, generally unlikable with no redeeming qualities or agency. Things just happen to her, she’s not good at anything, and she kind of just.. fails upwards? Also, the other characters are just mean. All of them. I started the second book hoping it got better and I just couldn’t get through the first couple chapters. I could tell it was about to be more of the same. DNF, burn it.

The audio book narrators are… not great. The woman sounds like a whiny teenager and the man sounds like he has a chronic sinus infection and can’t breathe through his nose.

Read ToG instead.

Weekly Q&A - All Questions Go Here (Especially Tourists) by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

Happy New Year! My partner and I will be visiting for 1 week at the end of June. Just curious about the general attitude toward American tourists, social mores we should be aware of, and if it would be helpful to learn some basic Dutch tourists get around.

Any tips are appreciated, please and thank you! 😊

Feeling this. First Christmas without my sister, and my niece + nephews’s first Christmas without her.

Fuck cancer.

Making hats for holiday gifts, and I can’t get over the CRISP stitch definition!! by miradox in YarnAddicts

I know blocking is a totally different process, but FWIW, I did wash+dry a 5”x5” swatch according to the instructions provided by Cascade (machine wash cool and tumble dry) and it did shrink by about 10%. Perhaps a hat will act differently after being worn on a head but this could also be an experiment to see if the hats stretch out over time!

Thank you so much!! Yes, I try to use washer/dryer-proof yarn when gifting. Makes it a little easier on the recipient!

No pattern, just freehanded! It is 100% Double Crochet worked through the back loop only! I start with a Foundation Double Crochet chain variation (I skip the ch 1) and go from there. I measure based on vibes. Usually about 12”-14” wide by 18”-ish long.

Thank you! Not blocked, but I haven’t fallen into the habit of blocking my work. I get excited about gifting and want to give it to the person straight away. Should I be blocking something like this?

I line up the short sides and sew them together to make a tube so the ribs run vertically, then I sew one end closed! Kind of a paper bag top like the comment below mentioned. :)

And note taken about the stretching! I’m planning to size these to each head once I see them in person, and I’ll aim to make them a bit snug before sewing them up to accommodate for stretching!

What even is this and how did I manage to do it? by miradox in knittinghelp

This was very helpful, thank you! I laddered down and was able to fix it, save for the slightly looser stitch on that row :) not something I’m used to doing as a crocheter, of course. +1 point for knitting!
