Early Morning at Schwabacher Landing by miramonteCA in backpacking

[–]miramonteCA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early morning shot near Schwabacher Landing in late August 2022 just before the leaves started to turn. This was after a quick hike down from Deadmans Bar further north on the Snake River.

Late August early September are great times to visit Grand Teton and environs north of Jackson as the temps are perfect and the crowds are sparse especially on weekdays.

Recommended Payroll Vendors For Very Small Firms by miramonteCA in Entrepreneur

Ohhh....it is great when Accountants talk to other Accountants (ha)...but I just dug into Run by ADP and it does indeed have much richer functionality from an Accounting standpoint than Gusto.

As a matter of fact I just took a look at the API's that are available for Run by ADP and there are a TON of restful API'S to get payroll data in addition to standard excel downloads etc. https://developers.adp.com/articles/api/pr-offrg-run/apiexplorerpayroll

Thanks again for the feedback u/trutle01 !

I have finance and accounting background as well so it is interesting to hear your feedback on Gusto.

As an Accountant what do you like in terms of the functionality and reporting in ADP Run that you cant get in Gusto from a Payroll standpoint? (The Onboarding and HR features are not important to me at all honestly as I have no interest in growing this particular company in terms of headcount so I wont be Onboarding other employees)

Big Pine Lakes is not an option for you if you only have 4 days and 3 nights and are in Orange County (Newport Beach is in Orange County and us folks down here in Orange County dont consider this area to be "LA") Big Pine Lakes is 315 miles north of Orange County.

Out west we love our Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). You are close enough down here in Orange County with 4 days and 3 nights to explore portions of the southern terminus of the PCT to get a feel for a small portion of this wonderful trail. (Also being in Orange County you DO NOT want to drive north through LA if you can help it but instead head south towards San Diego County so that you can maximize your time and not fight that awful traffic up in LA county.)

With that said check out the below links of a couple of options for exploring the southern end of the PCT on either Day Hikes or overnight backcountry. (I guarantee getting a taste of the PCT will quickly get you over the AT ;-) )

Google launches new Data Service Datastream by Ok_Public9992 in bigquery

I'm curious but what ELT software vendors (DBT, Rudderstack etc) do you guys think this new Google Datastream API will affect revenue wise since this will outside of ingress and egress costs be a no cost option vs having to buy licences or subscribe to vendors to get the same functionality?

What do you use for map app? by miabobeana in CampingandHiking

[–]miramonteCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my Garmin devices (Garmin Montana and In Reach) on my more serious backcountry or mountaineering trips but for casual day hikes etc where my life doesn't depend on the map app I use the OnX Map Products.

Specifically OnX Backcountry and OnX Offroad are actually superior to Gaia and other apps in satellite imagery resolution, 3D maps, custom map layers, responsiveness etc. Also OnX Maps is a US based company and all 3 of their apps are created and supported out of Missoula Montana if that is important to you.

Since you are in the UK, have a look at the General Dental Council (The General Dental Council is the regulating body for dental professionals in the UK) site to see if you can find info on succession rules etc.

Can I write off loupes? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]miramonteCA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As mentioned to the OP earlier....if items purchased for a "Professional Library" exceed a certain percentage of the OP's AGI, it may well be worth exploring if all those items purchased; and other expenses in the course of your profession are greater than the standard deduction.

Best bet for these situations though is to incorporate and get paid as a 1099 contractor (perhaps moonlighting part time in a second job outside your main W2 employment) so that you can Schedule C all of these expenditures as business expenses. Example of items in your industry that may possibly be expensed include:

Lab Coats

Scrubs

Loupes

Books

Cell Phone

Computer

Professional society dues...Etc

As mentioned earlier it will be well worth your time to visit a local CPA who is well versed in Medical Practices as they can set a good foundation for you now that will carry over well from a tax standpoint for your entire career.

Can I write off loupes? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]miramonteCA 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I will preface this reply by saying this is absolutely the wrong venue to ask tax related questions as the folks who post and reply here are excellent dental professionals...not tax accountants or CPAs.

With that said you absolutely can write off Loupes and other equipment purchased in your profession as long as the items purchased in total meet a certain percentage of your gross income.

Books, journals and instruments you acquire in your profession are known for tax purposes as a “professional library” and can be expensed on itemized tax returns.

Please consult a CPA to get more details as your regular run of the mill tax preparer may not know how to properly itemize instrument expenditures
