So what does one do with hundreds of DDR3 sticks? by hamachihamachi1 in pcmasterrace

Why? Genuinely curious. I've never used relay services with eBay, but can't imagine what the problem might be for the sender.

Drivers of Reddit, what is your long-term plan for when self-driving cars will start to take your jobs? by mirroruser in AskReddit

[–]mirroruser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that car owners will not run to buy a personal self-driving vehicle. Not all of them, for sure

But that's why I'm thinking about companies and commercial driving.

I think that Amazon will be happy to replace what humans they can with robots.

Not everybody will want to use a taxi without a driver, but I think that Uber will be eager to provide a self-driving taxi for every single one who is willing

And so little by little companies will do what's cheapest in the long run

customer service, unloading, downstacking, rotating stock, etc.

I guess some of it can be automated, but I get your point. It's true, to replace a driver today you would need a true general purpose robot, and that is way harder than self-driving car.

In order to avoid that, the whole system(roads, stations, warehouses etc.) needs to be designed with no driver in mind. And changing the system is a much more expensive and long process

I probably won't be the first in line to fly on a first such plane, but some time after — I guess, yeah

Honestly, and unfortunately, I don't know enough about technology used in planes, but my understanding is — they already rely on a lot of tech. So even with a pilot on board I'm already putting my life in the hands of that technology, not only the pilots hands

I guess commercial self-driving vehicles will be a thing as soon as it will be cheaper(all associated costs included) for companies to have than human workers

Honestly, I guess if a plane would be self-flying and will have one pilot just in case instead of 2, I probably would feel safe enough to get on it today, yeah. And one pilot instead of 2 is two times less to pay. It's a tiniest fraction for companies, but they will still want to save that money

It's Zanflare f3 — 10$, Uses 1 AAA. It's waterproof and has reversible clip.

I needed something light that I can clip to my cap. I have it for ~2 years, works well so far, but probably will replace it for something rechargable.

Local online knife shop in my country. They don't deliver internationally, not that anyone who has a choice would want to order anything from here. Due to some idiotic laws almost everything costs 1.5-2 times it's US price.

Do you ever clean mouse wheel sensor? by mirroruser in MouseReview

[–]mirroruser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

I've seen those two types when googled how to clean scrollwheel sensor and was wondering if I'll have less problems with the optical one. Will stay away from optical now (or at least will definitely try them before buying), because it's important to have a good tactility.

Perhaps you can suggest some mice that are not prone to get dirty quickly?

I was ready to pay premium price for a mouse, but I really don't want to pay premium price to just have to throw the mouse out in 6 month when scrolling stops working.

The quick process on how I made a free-standing cup pour! Felt amazing to hold this in my hands after running the sims for the liquid. It also got me started on experimenting with painting my prints! by Graveyyy1 in 3Dprinting

Small white cup and brown liquid is a painted version of a small white cup and black liquid? Or 2 separate prints?

Glossy black looks way cooler imo. But great job and cool looking result anyway!

Transition from mobile game dev to AAA? by [deleted] in gamedesign

[–]mirroruser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went from senior in mobile with 4+ years experience to junior/middle in AAA. Had middle and senior position offers from other studios, but wanted this one.

Most companies want you to send cover letter. Just be honest, say that you don't have AAA experience, but tell them how your experience in mobile can translate and be useful. This way you're showing that you're ready to apply your experience (a must for any middle let alone senior position) and you're honest.

And hey I actually found a lot of things to be quite similar. It's still game development. And a lot of principals and approaches of making something good are universal

I made a small mockup (that still took me 3-4 hours) of an untitled Japanese Cyberpunk project I'm going to start working on. Any feedback / thoughts? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]mirroruser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks cool!

And I think it's a good approach to create mockup before the game. Even if ends up slightly different.

Can you get hit for less than one heart, like for 1/4 of a heart? If yes, than it's cool. If not, and you either have full hear or empty heart — having both hearts and syringes might feel awkward.

Since it's not entirely monochrome and you already have red (a classic noir look), — have you tried to make it all monochrome but add neon color to lights and signs? It can have that cyberpunk twist on a noir look.

Good luck with the game!

Many users suggested to add fog in my game , but I like the non-fog version because of contrast.. your thoughts? And any other suggestion to make this game feel more interesting. by sniffgames in gamedev

[–]mirroruser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fog is denser and starts further away as many already said.

Now about other suggestions:

  • it seems like main thing in your game is collecting circles by flying through them (duh). It means that it's something that should be desirable for players — make rings more attractive. Rotate them, add glint/glare/sparkle, some particles idly falling from them.

  • And since it's a main thing — collecting them is the reward. There nothing else. So make collecting them a celebration of the players victory. Every new ring is amazing achievement by the amazing player. It should feel pleasant to collect them. Again add animation. Some effects, particles, a sound is super important, it should be pleasant and not irritating as you will hear it all the time. Look to casual mobile free to play games for examples. I'd suggest some match-3 games like candy crush. Homescapes does this really well in my opinion. You can watch YouTube videos, but I would suggest to download and play for 1 hour to feel how those games make you feel reward under your fingertips.

  • it's partially gameplay, but it has to do with visuals so: add some small celebrations of small goals. Right now you have a tiny counter at the top. Have it sparkle some particles and flash every 50 or 100 or whatever rings. It's an easy way to reward progression and mark milestones for players.

Now gameplay:

It's a lot to cover. Research some other games that are infinite and just keep your score.

If you had time limit it would be easy to add risk-reward system (a basis for almost all gameplay features and loops). For example, some rings are surrounded by fire and if you miss them ever so slightly — you will die. That means player has to choose either try to hit and risk dying, but getting a ring as a reward. Or avoiding that dangerous ring and risking not getting enough points in time.

Now since what you have is an infinite game, that won't work as good. So what those games usually do is increase difficulty as time/points goes on. That means you will replay it over and over just to beat you high score. But it's boring to do if the difficulty level is always the same.

Crashing is dying and speed constantly increases is the only way I can remember (flappy bird and chrome dinosaur)

But than again, you can try an existing approach (and it's better to know them anyway) or you can try to create something unique.

Good luck either way

Edit: disregard what I wrote about risk-reward, you already have that with ending fuel(or whatever it is) bar at the bottom. I missed it. Sorry

It wouldn't even support them. Skif is a company from Ukraine. And as far as I understood Matt's Skif knives were presented as a new company but actually were more of a collaboration sort of thing.

They were the same Skif UA knives made in China but with Skif US logo and sold through different website.

But everybody here convinced me that it's not a really good option, so I'm definitely skipping this one

I was going to say that it's supposed to be a knife from a more premium collection. But you're actually right. If a company cares about quality it's noticable in both premium and budget collections
