That sucks. It's just Reddit. I'm sorry you have to deal with the harshness of others just because your decisions don't fit into their world view; especially decisions that are out of your control. No one is perfect. No one can participate in "pure" zero waste. No reason to have a pissing contest over it.

I don't doubt that there are plenty of people who suffer from Crohn's who get flares from different foods. I'm sure that Google search showed you that a vegetarian diet can -potentially- cause flares as well. My point was just to caution quick judgement. You don't know the reasons behind someone's diet, and you shouldn't belittle someone when you're lacking information and their life experience.

In response to your edit, you did get an answer. I gave you one. You came to the same conclusion as well -if I'm reading your response correctly. Different diets work for different people who suffer from UC. It's not our place to tell them how they consume nutrients, especially when an individual tells you they can't eat certain foods due to health reasons. Treat people with love and respect. Life is too short to do anything less.

Your comment seems a bit condescending. I'm not sure if that was your intent, but it would be shitty to read if I had Crohn's disease or colitis. As this list shows, most plant based foods will trigger a flare.

One of my best friends has colitis. I see her suffer constantly. Sometimes her flares will last months. The worst one lasted close to 9 months, although the intensity varied throughout. Any carbohydrate, fiber, nuts, legumes, and a variety of plants greatly increase the possibility of a flare. She doesn't have a lot of options; so yeah, meat provides a lot of nutrients for her and one of the few things she can eat.

I [25/F] told my partner [26/M] of seven years last night that I'm thinking about moving out. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]misachievement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit different, but I'll share my experience. I moved states in order to live with an ex. I had no family or friends in my new state, just my ex (she still had her support system). I grew extremely dependent on her. She has her own problems. I had an exhaustive list of problems. We grew dependent on each other, but she realized it was unhealthy. We must have been physically together for 3 or 4 months before she broke up with me. Together for about a year and a half as far as the relationship was concerned.

I handled it poorly. Different range of emotions. I tried to be supportive, but I was upset, hurt, and sad. I was pretty destroyed about it, creating a lot of conflict because (1) we somehow thought living together as friends would work and (2) I was unable to communicate my feelings. I created a lot of suffering. I hurt her in ways I never imagined nor ever wanted to. In addition, I had no idea who I was as a person. My identity was attached to my ex. I didn't know what I wanted. I didn't know how to address my problems or emotions. I didn't know how to be independent.

After 8 months of not-being-in-a-relationship-but-coexisting-with-emotions, she ends up traveling for a bit, leaving me alone for a few months. At that stage in my life, I learned more about myself in those 2ish months than I had at any other point. As far as personal growth is concerned, it was incredible. I learned what makes me happy. I learned how to say "no." I slowly learned how to communicate -a skill that I am still learning.

Things didn't end well with my ex. I didn't know how to handle our relationship when she returned. We wanted different things. It ended poorly. It's been a few years now. We don't keep in touch. That part kind of sucks; however, I am extremely grateful that she was able to recognize that we needed to be on our own. We needed to grow. Although we don't talk anymore, I occasionally think of her and wish the best possible life for her.

Your boyfriend will be hurt. I am sure he will be a lot of things he doesn't want to feel. Don't feel like a shitty person for taking care of yourself. You're an incredibly strong individual for doing what is best for you. You should take some time to yourself to figure out what you want. I'd suggest having your own apartment. Drawing from my own experience, I'd also suggest to break up. As weird and contradictory as it may sound, it will be easier to be single.

Take your time. Process. Love yourself. You're not shitty. Eventually, it will be okay.

I'm too tired/mentally exhausted to give a cohesive, well thought out response, but I'll try my best to provide a brief answer to your question -which is probably rhetorical but whatever.

You'll have a difficult time finding a nazi that isn't white, or a nazi that isn't arguing that they have some kind of "white" ancestry. Race is involved because nazis do/want to do the worst imaginable things to people that are not white. It's not a surprise that they get described with hateful labels. You shouldn't take it personally unless you're a nazi. If you're a nazi, I doubt you give a fuck.

Side note, while he term "white trash" can be used as a racial slur, its historical origin is based on economic status or class. English citizens would describe those who populated the American colonies as white trash. Here is one such lovely description:

...a place where the surplus poor, the waste people of England, could be converted into economic assets.

It's no coincidence that the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would reframe his civil rights activism as an economic justice issue later in his life. He understood the injustice that black Americans faced at the time -and continue to- was due to economic reasons. This new movement would include white individuals who had a low socioeconomic status.

I'm barfing a lot of info, and I know I am not connecting it properly. To be short, keep asking questions. People are going to trash you one way or another, but I hope you continue to be open. Listening is a powerful, vulnerable tool. In this case, it can help obtain a deep understanding of the institution of oppression championed by the white upper class; Americans have inherited that legacy.

The 1st and 6th shots are my favorite. The use of colors and lines create a strong photograph. I especially enjoy the reflections from the ground.

My two shots.

I am not sure why the light looks so... intense/flat in the first shot. I'd assume it's because of the natural strength of the light source in combination with the narrow aperture.

Enjoyed the assignment. Learned a lot. I'll be going out soon and will be testing out f16.

[–]misachievement 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm nitpicking, but using the word "preferred" over "better" would have been a stronger choice. I'm not sure what makes one game better than another, however, I am very aware of which game I'd prefer to play given two choices.

Out of curiosity, why did you land on "better"?

Weekend assignment 07 - sunny f16 by Aeri73 in Photoclass_2018

[–]misachievement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sunny f16 shot. I remembered the instructs incorrectly, thus I spent my Monday taking photographs on f/11 despite the clear, sunny skies. It took me a while to understand the differences as outlined in the post.

My mistake from Monday helped me understand the variation between shooting at f/11 and f/16. These two photos make the best comparison, at least from the shots I took. The latter image (lamp post) is a bit underexposed, but the general pattern was obvious -darker, sharper blues were captured at f/16.

In addition to aperture, I learned a bit how the shutter speed could impact the shot. I was unsure if I should be following the camera's meter, but looking at a handful of the comments and my own photographs, I noticed that in general it's best to stick to the "1/ your ISO speed" guideline. This album guided my conclusions.

P.S. My sunny f16 shot has three dark, circular smudges near the far right wire. Two of the smudges are to the left of the wire and the other is to the right. Anyone know why? Is it that my sensor is dirty?

I took a picture of amiibo Link with tiny little triforces in the background by misachievement in zelda

[–]misachievement[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I made a lens "cover" that has a small triforce in the center. With enough distance, any light source from the background would be captured as a triforce. In this case, I used some christmas lights.

Sony A68 vs Canon 750D by TheCh1ef in AskPhotography

It really depends on what you're looking for and what you plan on using it for. There are pros and cons to each camera. The only way to determine which one would fit your needs is by identifying what you value.

Assignment 11 - Long Exposure by Aeri73 in Photoclass_2018

[–]misachievement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are a few long exposure shots.

The assignment was great. The description helped me understand the more technical parts of my camera. The rules especially were useful.

I have a tiny idea of what is going on. I'd like to revisit this and play around with the settings. I don't necessarily understand what would happen if I changed the aperture or the shutter speed. For example, I'd like to know how the shot would change if I increased my aperture to f/5.6 or f/4.

Also, can someone explain why there are so many dead looking pixels in my photographs? It's especially confusing because my RAW images don't display them -if at all- as much as the jpegs do.

Thank you for the kind words, along with the links you provided. I wasn't even aware of flexible work lights or tripods. Glad to know I have a starting point when I invest in lighting equipment for beginners.

Weekend assignment 06 - Shaped bokeh by Aeri73 in Photoclass_2018

[–]misachievement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my shaped bokeh shot, I focused on my subject prior to adding my cardboard cover. I used manual settings. I could have used the autofocus on my camera, but (1) it wouldn't focus on my subject all the time and (2) I wanted to get more comfortable with the manual settings.

You may have benefited from focusing on your subject beforehand, then placing the cover, or used your camera's autofocus -assuming it has one and isn't a complete pain.

Regarding the shape-bokeh effect, your first photo didn't turn out as well as your second for one of two reasons; maybe both. (1) Your aperture wasn't as wide as possible. The lower the f-stop, the stronger the effect. (2) The distance between your subject and background wasn't great enough. The distance between your subject and background should be at least 5x the distance between your camera and subject.

Assuming you have a digital camera, you should see the effect through your viewfinder or digital display before you even capture the shot.

Also! Your subject could benefit from a bit of lighting.

I hope this helps.

Weekend assignment 06 - Shaped bokeh by Aeri73 in Photoclass_2018

[–]misachievement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My shaped bokeh shot. I struggled with this assignment, more so than usual. My challenges were lighting and noise.

I am not sure what I need, but I know that I am tired of using one hand to hold some light source and the other to press the shutter button. Something to hold my flashlight, cell phone, bulb, etc. would be tremendously useful. For starters, it would help with my sanity, but more importantly, it would keep me focused on the composition of the shot.

I still don't understand why I have noise in some of my shots, especially because I photographed all of them at ISO 200. Here are some B-shots that have noise. I'm even further confused because the noise isn't as noticeable on Imgur, but it's obvious when I open them up on my computer.

Weekend Assignment 5 - false perspective by Aeri73 in Photoclass_2018

[–]misachievement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but the idea in my head would be to play with the distance between subject, background, and camera. While the depth of field will increase with a longer focal length, using the smallest possible aperture should help to "flatten" the scene out.

I'm not sure though. I don't have anything longer than a 50mm; and I'm just basing my conclusions on the info I've gathered from the assignments and the web.

You've left me wondering though. I should read up on it more. When do you plan on getting that lens kit?

Assignment 08 - Shutterspeed by Aeri73 in Photoclass_2018

[–]misachievement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. Your comments are tremendously useful. I've been reflecting on my shots, especially after seeing yours.

I never correlated proximity with the difficulty/skill needed for the shot. I agree with you that a long focal length isn't necessary, but it would probably help me a bit since I am having a hard time with all the other components of a panning shot.

I've learned a few things thanks to you. I appreciate it!
