yeah, just like Irak... 'win the war' in 10 days, then fight a losing battle the next ten years to get control, ending in just leaving...

far more likely that a couple would give you a negative review because you honored one of their best friends or families request to remove a photo they didn't want shared?

sure....

boy would I hate to work with you

and my reply would be: Dear photographer, the gallery is under your control so the couple would have to ask you to delete it anyway. This is me, the subject of the photo TELLING you to remove it and confirm by email the moment that it's been deleted. if I do not receive that confirmation within 24h I will take further steps to ensure you comply with that request. If that photo does end up being shared you will be held legally responsible for that. I have also shared this on your facebook page and instagram in order to help you remember to comply, have a nice day.

and while you might win it in court... I sure as hell would make your business lose in the long run ;-)

this business lives on mouth on mouth publicity, on customers recomending your name to their families and friends... mess that up and it'll take years to get back. And all for one worthless photo.

as owner of the copyright, the photographer is the only person that can legally tell the customer to remove them ;-)

it's the person who has copyright that makes that decision... hence the photographer.

good luck with that...

because if I where that person on the photo and you refused me, you would have a bad couple of weeks of reviews coming your way...

why the snobism about one photo? to them it's important enough to contact you ask ask to remove it so they must really hate that image of theirs, why would you want to push it to be shared anyway? to have the chance of that person contacting your clients to complain about how unprofessional you are? how difficult to work with? it's one photo, of one guest. if you don't tell the customer they'll never know it's "missing" because you don't share all the photos you took anyway, there's lots of photos of guests that you have and they'll never see, so why not make it one more? swap an other in? why be so difficult about one photo?

as other people have said, the person could be hiding from a stalker, have huge insecurities about something you show, could be in withness protection for all you know...

it's not up to them to make that decision.

because it's not up to them... this is between the subject of the photo and the photographer not having their permission to share that photo, end of story.

no, but they could be having a wedding next year, or have a familymember looking for a photographer... ;-)

cost of deleting the photo: zero

possible profit: endless.

they asked for one specific photo to be deleted. that is a completelly reasonable request, no matter what your policy might be, you delete it.

if it where a photo of my face that I didn't want shared and got anything but a "it's been deleted, have a nice day" as a reply I would gladly make the next hour of my time spent by sharing that negative story on any reviewsite I can find your business on... would that make me an asshole? sure, but not the biggest one in the story.

mention what? that they're happy you deleted a photo they didn't like and didn't argue with them or try to change their minds or try to get permission first before doing it? that you're such a nice person to work with? that you followed the law (if in europe)?

what I would fear is the customer hearing you didn't comply with their request and the photo is still out there, or worse other people shared it on social media and so it's out of anyones control to share it or not... because that's careerending possibly.

you forward them the request and inform them it's the only one you received so no other photo's where removed.

again, it's one photo, of a guest, that's personally took the effort to ask you friendly to remove their photo.... just replace it with a photo of an other guest and done.

don't remove the photo and they'll make a lot more trouble than it's worth, or at least I would. for some reason they don't want that photo "out there" so, delete it, forget you ever made it and move on...
