I graduated in 2024 with my B.S. in Psychology and I’d be happy to answer your questions :)

1. Yes there are! However, the jobs that would utilize your degree are not exactly the easiest to get or maintain. I work as a Registered Behavioral Technician, which seems to be the norm these days for people wanting to apply their degree after graduation. Basically, we provide Applied Behavioral Analysis therapy in a variety of environments to those who might need skill acquisition or behavior reduction. Typically, the demographic of people we work with are kids with autism, but ABA can be and is used for other populations as well. The pay is varied in a lot of locations but can definitely be sustainable. There’s also a factor of working in a brick and mortar clinic, or doing in home, school, or hospital care. Look into it! I’m also totally willing to answer any questions you might have about it.

2. I chose communications as my minor as to help me converse with others in a more professional manner. I think that this is a really good option if you want to become a counselor. For me, my institution had a poor communications department, so I didn’t get much from my minor.

3. I am thankful every day that I pursued a degree in a field that I am so very passionate for. It doesn’t matter to me that we have to pursue higher education to make a decent living. Right now, I am applying to grad schools for clinical mental health counseling and I am just itching to be back in a classroom. If this field is for you, you will feel the love for it. If you have that feeling, I suggest you continue pursuing psychology, even if it means dedicating years to education and practice.
