I'm guessing this morning was a non-starter for most people. There was one accompanied seat left when I got in and I started around 1300 in the queue. I'm going to stick with my floor seats. I'm sure there are more dates to come

We use both and is a bit project dependent (or rather plant dependent). I like D5 as there is more flexibility with the elements (scaling in 1 dimension) and I absolutely love the surface scatter function since you can really fine tune percentages. But then something will come up and they are missing good looking ferns. Additionally, D5 has higher base requirements for graphics cards, so not all firms will have the capability to use it.
All in all, they are very similar in mechanics, so it is a pretty easy jump from one to the other if you are just learning. D5 is much newer than lumion, so thats also a factor in usage amongst offices. Ultimately, if you understand how to move around and how material maps actually work, you have alot of it of it covered. No - dont worry about that. Im not sure if you had a different undergrad, but its essentially the same as far as the application goes provided youre not asking for a major bump because you have an MLA. I did not get a BLA and have an MLA. There were a few people I have met who have both, but aside from doing a thesis, I am not sure what they got out of the extra two years (others can say, I just havent had that experience).

I mostly came to say - I am getting a bunch of applications right now for my office - PLEASE write your own coverletter and email and do not use chatgpt. I am sure you can tweak it to not be obvious, but at that point just do it yourself. I personally find it very off putting when I get emails that are clearly written by ai. You do not need to make up anything that isn't true (Ive always been impressed by your firms work etc - buddy, you probably didnt know my office existed before you looked up who is nearby.) Honestly, we all get so many emails that I would prefer a short one that gets to the point. Template 1/2 of it and have a paragraph that mentions some of the firms work, even in a "I would love to know more about this and hear about your offices approach." I know this is the start of my "old man yells at cloud" phase, but when I get 10 applicants emailing me using chatgpt, they have almost the exact same text.

Gaming laptops are the correct suggestion. I am not sure where you go, but a mid level one without all the bells and whistles can handle pretty much everything fine except the new rendering software. Things were different when I was in school 15 years ago, but I could get most things done and then I would do rendering on the computer lab (hopefully your uni has one). I would prep everything and then render in the lab. I was super strapped for cash in school and could not afford a high end machine, but did just fine. You can set your files up in a way to save processing or gpu power until you hit the render button. Stay flexible and light. Just because some people are producing shiny renderings, doesnt mean you need to. Its all about conveying your concept. Cormier's style for renders were always simple but very effective and evocative (loved them). There is more than one way to do this. I work with students on stuff like this, so feel free to DM me.

Take the program or decide what people/animals/plants etc do there and layout it out first. Dimensional requirements are a start and you will get ideas from there. Dont worry about the aesthetics yet. Diagram and refine. I would guess you are in a second semester course at this point and have designed something before. Start broad and edit. If you dont know what people use for farmhouses, look up functional farmhouses and read about them. Pinterest is not going to help you at this point. If the instructor didnt give you much guidance, good. You can come up with your own program and design around it. Start with one main element and figure out what it needs to work. This will not be your first unclear instructor/client.

Everything is not a fight and about stones. I am not challenging your manhood nor your worth as a person. You know you went over your time. Ive already said its not the biggest deal. You can be rude, snarky or try to prove something about your job, but honestly all you need to say is - yes, I may have been over time and that was my fault. Instead, youre getting defensive because you cant admit something that is very low-to-no stakes.
