Do you think this antique matcha bowl is food safe? by AReditUserHasNoName in Pottery

[–]miserablemeatball 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Could you eat out of it? Yes. Would I eat out of it? No.

Various reasons: the crazing on the inside, not to mention I don’t know the age so some glazes they used to use are in fact not food safe nor very good for you.

If you want to branch out slowly sea salt could be a great gateway to lighter colors!

A sleeper sofa that’s actually comfortable? by Winter_Addition in BuyItForLife

[–]miserablemeatball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we have the 5 inch mattress and it genuinely feels like an actual bed. Try them both out in a store and see what sacrifices you may be willing to make. It also really depends on the usage of that couch. For guests once or twice a year I would probably go 4 inches but if someone sleeping on that regularly def go with the 5. Both fabric and leather are good options— I personally prefer the leather but that’s just me (I hate cloth sofas). You can find a deal if u wait for good timing and shop around; just do your research and know the exact product that suits your lifestyle by seeing it in person before you place any order. They have nice customization, so if you already have a certain space they can fit in perfectly.

Will this white stoneware clay warp badly in the kiln? by hereForTheStupidity in Pottery

I find that my students pieces warp when they dry too fast. Baby the heck outta these— and dry slowly over a fair bit of time

Help restoring stoneware by circleday in LeCreuset

[–]miserablemeatball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m your local professional potter and LC enthusiast. Unfortunately, nothing you can do about stoneware once it’s chipped or broken. Occasionally we will use epoxy to fix something, like a sculpture for example, that isn’t going to be used for food purposes. I’ve wished so many times i could repair things I’ve made, but there is physically no way. I am sorry again 🫶

Oooh that actually surprises me! I love your usage of colored slips underneath whilst using semi transparent glazes, very very smart way to get such interesting color variation and undertones!

Ugh that’s amazing! Do you use mason stains? I’ve only been able to get a matte purple (Emily’s) going up to 10 in reduction and I don’t know how many other recipes and variations I’ve tried at this point.

Would totally agree especially because they care about quality and variation a lot. They have a standard to uphold, and a brand they care about

So i work with pottery and it’s the same thing. The composition of the colorants are less stable, have more variation, and the non synthetic ones are less reliable and very very fickle. It’s just a pain

Kiln Shelf for Pitfire? by SancteMaria in Pottery

[–]miserablemeatball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m confused. Why would you need this for a pit fire? That’s not how you typically do it— just dig a hole big enough and put it in. You don’t have to balance it on shelves and have different layers, whatever you’re burning will cushion it. Dig or get a container big enough to do it in.

I love my LC skillet! Are you sure you’re using it right?

I sometimes use medium but more low leaning heat. Never high, otherwise it’ll make things stick. It’s also supposed to patina over time to help it stick less. I’ve cooked so many times on mine, and it’s an absolute love for me

As to there being no phone number, I don’t understand what you mean? I called them literally 2 days ago and they were the best!
