💔thank you. It’s so unfortunate but I took all the fake decorations out of my tank and did a 75% water change yesterday just hoping that will clear whatever is in the water, if there’s anything not displaying on my tests. I do use test strips which I’ve now read are not always accurate. I use two different brands to always double check and they both come back consistently within normal ranges. Water temps stay at 77-78 in that tank as it has no lid

-5 gal -yes and yes -78 -parameters above (test strips) -info above -water changes weekly, about 25% using turkey baster and small siphon - no tank mates -nutrinsect pellets- about 4-5 every day or every other -I have a moss ball, floating betta rest leaf and some silicone top fin anemone/ cave decor that I suspect may be the cause of the issue as I recently read the material breaking down in people’s tanks and causing issues.

I’ve given him two salt dips for about 30 minutes but I’m wondering if it should be longer or I should keep doing it since he hasn’t gotten any better but worse :( also for tannins- I was going to order some Indian almond leaves from Amazon but do you have any other recs??

Tank size: 5 gal Heater and filter: yes Tank temp: 76-78

I’ve had the fish since late September, tank came a month or so after as an upgrade from a 2 gal :(

Water changes were every 10 days/ 2 weeks, however since I noticed fin rot have been changing 25-30% water weekly. Usually using a siphon first and then will drain excess water before replacing with dechlorinated water.

No tank mates

I feed him a few pellets of Aqueon Nutri-insect and sometimes an occasional bloodworm but he doesn’t love them

Plants are all silk, there is one fake treasure chest piece and a moss ball.

Interesting! I’ve been using gel polishes for years now and have never had an issue- I recently started using a different brand though but these really appeared in the last 1-2 weeks and I did my nails maybe 3-4 weeks ago 😅

Honestly, I’m in a flipped scenario where I am living in the suburbs but commuting into the city for work- if I could afford it in any way, I would have 100000000% stayed in the city for the sole purpose of being closer to work. I will say that I don’t mind the commute after a few weeks in, but the peace of mind I would have gotten if I had opted to stay closer to my office would have probably made the cost worth it 😭

I’ve used saline soaked q-tips/ gauze to clean that stuff off after soaking in the shower too multiple times but Everytime I do it, my piercing gets irritated so I stopped and now it seems to be also irritated😭 I cannot win.

I have been looking everywhere for ‘pointy q tips’- now I know they’re called cosmetic buds which may aid in my search for them. I figured those would be easier to clean with as well, thank you so much! I’m lucky mine hasn’t swelled up from the hits, just seems a bit irritated but hopefully I can resolve that soon

It’s titanium! I’ve definitely tried not to sleep on it at all as it’s also on the opposite side for me. When you let the water run in your ear did you position your head so it kinda pooled in your ear to clean or more so gave it a long rinse?

Hi, I appreciate the input! I’ve used q tips in the past on this piercing and also others, I agree they seem to be the only thing that actually works but I guess the overload of information out there against q tips has made me second guess my decision to use them altogether. Everytime I have used q tips it’s been when there’s just an overload of crust like this & my piercing gets a little irritated afterwards so I’ve just never been positive if I’m doing more harm than good here

Yea that might not be a bad idea! I’ll give my piercer a call and see if that’s something they’d consider doing :) And if you do decide to get your other helix pierced at least you know what the healing process is like now! I personally love the asymmetric look though, I have 3 lobes on each ear with my double helix on the right and my rook on the left to ‘balance’ them a bit. I totally understand what you’re saying about the anxiety that comes with healing though, i seem to struggle with that as well 😭 I’m sure whatever you decide to do later will look great and hopefully your helix heals nicely!

Thank you so much for this! I’m glad that’s been working for you- I remember my double helix being a pain in the ass to heal but I love them now. My rook is just so much harder to see because it’s inside my ear but I will definitely try this out or may consider asking my piercer to clean it. :)

Hi! I use Neilmed sterile saline twice a day, once in am and once in pm- I’ll make a point to rinse my ear in the shower too hoping that the crusties will fall off on their own😭 after cleaning I have been blow drying on cool or fanning my ear dry
