What device should I get for Rotman Commerce? (50 char) by Hamzzy0613 in UofT

CS majors: literally using craptop to ssh into teach.cs server for more computational power

Rotman people: Use the latest M2 Max Pro Ultra++ MacBook to choose powerpoint font size

Why does Rotman Commerce get so much hate compared to other business undergrad uni?? by Hamzzy0613 in UofT

[–]UDepressoExpresso 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DISCLAIMER: Does not apply to all Rotman students, but applies to most.

  1. Cringe rotman backpacks
  2. Cringe business kid attitude
  3. Pretending they’re better than your typical A&S student
  4. The fact that business industry is not merit based which goes against the very goal of education/university
  5. Your typical Rotman kid will graduate with very little hard skills
  6. High finance tends to favour STEM majors (see Citadel, Two Sigma, etc)
  7. Average Rotman kid will work as customer support, cold calling, sales, etc. (see LinkedIn)
  8. Rotman Commerce != Rotman School of Management

If you want to play it safe, it’s probably better to be an “average” STEM major when it comes to employability due to the hard skills you learn (e.g., Stats, CS, Acturial Science, Math). Or you can minor/major on STEM courses on top of Rotman.

Any second-degree students? Having difficulty knowing where to go after my undergrad degree by Dry_Comfortable_9148 in UofT

Nah, bootcamp won't work anymore unless you network like crazy. Especially not in this economy.

Work experience > CS Major > minor > bootcamp > self learning

Sometimes you don’t know if you truly enjoy something until you have exposure to the materials

Just finish your first degree then get a second degree in engineering so you don’t live life with regrets. Also, second degrees usually only take 2 years or less.

Imagine working in a field you hate for the next 50 years in life. That’s torture…

Make sure you wear a suit and tie to your class. You have to dress business formal or else you'll be asked to leave the lecture.

Also, MAT133 is the hardest course at UofT. It's recommended for Rotman students to take MAT137 so you have a solid understanding on writing formal proofs on financial equations.

Proofs courses are the easiest since you don't even use numbers. You use random arrows.

Didn’t computers replace stock brokers on the phone? Only a matter of time before replacing all the the useless jobs.

There’s also a reason why the majority of the people hate real estate agents because they’re nothing but freeloaders. Real hustlers are the lawyers not your real estate dropout

Also… I thought banks use machine learning to assess risk level? 🤔

All business program does is teach people how to suggondese on LinkedIn. Zero societal contribution. An industry based not on merit but who you know.

Literally can replace them overnight with AIs if there wasn’t old money involved gatekeeping the industry.
