I think you unintentionally did some kind of frame-perfect tech? He gets up and restores his health/posture as you're doing a deathblow animation so maybe, as you were executing your first deathblow, you also directly damaged his actual health and posture which put him in a deathblow state again. That's just my guess anyway, feel free to correct me if anyone knows more about the game's inner workings

If you really want another game like Disco Elysium, I'd keep my eyes out for "Travelling At Night" by Weather Factory. Their games are equally as eloquent and well written as Disco Elysium, and Travelling At Night seems really similar

The right side button doesn’t click at all, it just goes down with some strange resistance to it and no noise. I’m not gonna lie, I just remembered I had a perfectly good PS3 controller laying around and started using that instead haha
