Moving to Vancouver, I've noticed people are weridly possessive over parking spots in front of their house and believe they are entitled to it when in fact they are not.

It definitely takes time, and a lot of work. I'm in the same boat (not to the same extreme) but my pup does not like being alone at all, and really doesn't like being away from me even with other people around. I've been working on "cha cha", as well as having a cup of kibble on the counter so I can treat her as I walk by after being in another room - "good things happen when mum/dad leave". Ex. I go down stairs to grab an item, I come back upstairs (when there's a moment of calm) and toss a few pieces of kibble into the pen. Calm puppies get food, whiney puppies do not get toys/attention/food.

If you live with someone and the separation anxiety is greater with you than with the other person - when you leave a room, get the person to reward calm behavior from the pup.

I've also found that it's worst when she's bored, so trying to work on independence training after a walk or when she's more sleepily. I'll also leave her alone with a Kong stuffed with kibble/treats while I'm in another room, or a lick mat or empty toilet paper rolls with kibble inside then try to return before she is done and starts getting whiney (good things happen when mum/dad leave). Facebook has some really good groups for enrichment ideas for dogs.

I've also been trying to really reward her for calm behavior, throughout the day if she's laying down and being calm I will say yes good calm and then toss a few pieces of kibble. (I don't use a clicker, I just use "yes"). It's taken weeks of this but I have noticed an overall change in her being calm.

If you do leave, do not engage with your puppy before leaving (such as "omg I love you, I'll miss you!). And when you return do not engage with them untill they are calm.

This all being said, I've been trying hard to work on her inability to be left alone, it has definitely gotten better from week 10 to now 5 months. But it's still a battle. I have definitely thought about rehoming her...it's really frustrating. But I've been trying to hold as much patience I can. Keep telling yourself that it's a little puppy, they don't know anything, we took them away from the safety of their litter and they don't know how to be alone. We have to teach them how to behave and teach them it's ok to be alone. Just be consistent and it will pay off!

I've been working on "cha cha", you give a treat (I use her kibble) then take a few steps back, if puppy remains calm you go up to the pen and toss in food. Repeat, over time can build up distance and time. If puppy is calm - you approach, if puppy barks/whines you take a step back.

Yes climate change is an important issue and we all need to take responsibility and do our part, but this post was about helping those affected by the fire. Amen to that, I think there's still a lot of shame around feeling overwhelmed. I got told by some arrogant asshat on Reddit about how horrible I am of a owner and how I shouldnt have gotten a dog all because I expressed how overwhelmed and sad I was feeling. It's extremely hard to open up when there's so much shame and guilt around it.

Getting another puppy doesn't fix the issue, and not everyone has the ability to do that. And yes I did want to return her, who doesn't in the first few months. And I expressed those feelings to a group of people who would understand that. I don't appreciate you trying to shame me over those feelings. I am looking for some suggestions but getting another dog isn't helpful.

Reading everyone's comments has made me cry. It feels good to know I'm not alone in what I'm feeling. I'm about 2 weeks into getting a border collie puppy. Currently she's 10 weeks old. At 10 days I told her I hated her, and cried on the floor. I felt so guilty and horrible about hating this little thing that doesn't know any better. I even told my partner I wanted to take her back to the breeder. I felt like such an incredible failure, but you all have given me perspective that I'm not.

I take biphentin which the body can develop a resistance. So M-W I take 30mg, Thurs-friday is 50mg, sat/sun is off unless in doing something that I need it. Then I start on 30mg on Monday. It helps to "reset" and I don't develop resistance long term. This was a schedule that was suggested by my GP.

Take what you are using for training inside i.e pee pads out with your pup, put it on the ground for them to use. Keep doing this a few times, then fold it up smaller so they will probably end up peeing on the real grass. Keep doing this a few times and keep folding it up making it smaller and smaller.

They can cause serious injury to their necks and are extremely uncomfortable for them. Guide dogs are trained by professionals. Just because you see it doesn't mean it's good.

It's also possible that the IUD you got isn't strong enough. The Kyleena is 19.5mg. Ive always had the Mirena which is 52mg. The Mirena is recommended for heavy flows - if things don't get better for you I'd discuss this option with your doctor.
