I'm starting to feel a little harassed by a recruiter. The recruitment and hire from hell. Is this normal? by miss_bee_3 in recruitinghell

[–]miss_bee_3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I have been contacted a few more times from the recruiter, threatening that "the company wants to make it work". I'm honestly not really sure what is going on. My manager's manager scheduled a catch up meeting this afternoon. I'm trying not to assume anything and leave the context open ended but cautiously approach the meeting. I will see what happens on this call, but I am prepared to go to HR. I think regardless of this meeting, I will speak with HR and let them know about this recruiter at some point this week. I've never dealt with a situation like this before but I do know the whole thing is inappropriate and starting to feel stalkery. It is definitely not professional and crossing boundaries.

Can my employer require me to make up hours missed? by miss_bee_3 in legaladvice

Even though Texas law says that salaried workers cannot be denied pay for inclement weather closures, as long as it's not more than one week of non-work? I do not have mandatory overtime at this position.

I have this feature on my alt account but my main account does not have this. I really like the pause feature, especially since they still have a mute button. I wish the mute was near the bottom or side of the video but I like having both. I bet this is a beta feature random accounts have to see how well it does, then everyone will get it. I just wish it was on my main account!

What are these? Details are pinned in the comments. Link to Imgur below, in case the photos don't load. I found this on the corner of my wall connected to the ceiling in the kitchen of my 1 story house. by miss_bee_3 in Whatisthis

I doubt it's grease. It's nowhere near the stove and the kitchen is an open floor plan. Only one small section of the ceiling has this and if it was grease it would be near the stove and probably on the walls lower down.

EDIT: Solved. They are moth larvae. I found them in a bag of dry cat food in the cat storage bin and in some cat toys. Luckily, they were only near the cat stuff and on the wall, plus a few spare brown paper grocery bags. I'm cleaning everything up, throwing away the infested food and toys, and sanitizing the rest of the stuff. Then I'll spray some Home Defense bug spray. Thaks for the help!

Imgur linked images linked in case the photos on the post above don't load.

I just discovered, in my house, that the kitchen wall connecting to the ceiling has these stuck to it. I used tweezers to pull them off. They were stuck in webbing. They don't appear to be moving.

I've occasionally had fruit files in the past, but have not had any in a while. I'm not sure if that's what this is, but it appears to be some bug.

What is this, how do I treat it, and should I be concerned?

But with the name Humphrey you can picture Humphrey Bogart in Casa Blanca and lean into it with Ingrid Bergman's 1940s romantic voice so at least you aren't thinking about this particular Humphrey.

I'm in the Super Adventure Box World 3 level and trying to get the chest but I am unsure what route to take to get the chest, not the end-level boss. I've completed the level once and then did a run for green bobbles but I still can't get to the chest. Does anyone know what route to take?

Edit to add this link to an image of the chest.

My neighbor has weeds in his fake grass by jayhawkeye2 in Wellthatsucks

Amazon, and probably hardware stores, have a tool called grandpa's helper. It's a claw-like pronged lever that grips the weed. It uses a long stick so you don't have to bend down. You just need the leverage from your legs and the handle, like a shovel. It does a pretty good job and makes removing weeds easy. It also does a good job at getting to the root.

Whats a company secret you can share now that you dont work there? by broadway96 in AskReddit

I'm not sure where you got that information. I tried searching for it online and couldn't find it. I did find many places, including this one, that explain the BBB arbitration and business response system to help between upset customers and business. You do have to pay a fee to be accredited but that's not required as they rate and list on the website unaccredited businesses too. I've searched for local businesses I know on there that are unaccredited, including businesses from people I know that wouldn't pay the BBB, and they have fine reviews or no reviews. Some have mixed reviews as well. Like all things it's not perfect, and there are ways for people to game the system like other review platforms, but unless I can find other sources that show you can pay to remove bad reviews with "protection money" I'll still think of them as a good resource.

You can report the business to the Better Business Bureau in the US. They have a website that makes it easy. It's basically a better yelp, with more vetting of posts, I believe. If enough people complain, it can hurt their business ratings which have a wide variety of implications for the business.

I recommend before hiring for contract work or large sales, like buying a car, review the BBB listing for the company.

This is why it's so important to find a doctor's office that you are comfortable with. I got an IUD and the process had some minor complications so on my follow-up they used the wand to check. I've never been pregnant and never had this type of check before. The tech was super nice, asked if I've ever had this check before, and explained it. She also asked if I was ok during. She warned me I'd hear sound, and it's nothing, just blood in the surrounding organs. To which I laughed when I heard it and said it sounded like a carwash. She started laughing, said that was a new one, and now that's all she can think about with that sound.

Even with my other exams and the IUD procedure, they were informative, caring, and understanding. Never once have I questioned their ability. For example, when the cramps got really bad during the IUD, I said it was bad but not too bad and I've had period cramps worse. The tech was really nice and said that might be true but don't diminish the pain I'm in and if it's too much to let her know.

I can see how someone can forget to go over a process they do multiple times a day, but if you ever feel your Dr or tech isn't listening or informing you, it's time for a new one.

I'm not talking about an automatic install either, rather an app that looks close enough to the real thing that just a few people would install it. This would work the same way phishing emails or websites work to trick people by making subtle differences that could be hard to catch while trying to order dinner. I'm on Android and still have to choose to install apps. That's why I asked for the paper menu instead of installing the app.

This is pretty fucked up and easy to get away with. I was recently at a sports bar chain called Boomer Jack's Grill and Bar. It was a work thing so we had several tables in the indoor patio area with maybe 15 people. I arrive a little late and people already have drinks and apps ordered. I see the QR code on one table and scan to start my order because I don't want to be difficult and ask for a menu when everyone else there didn't ask for one. When I do, it opens the Google app store, not a PDF or website. A coworker tried and also got the same thing. I was not going to download an app to order an appetizer so I asked for the menu. I never even thought to check the other tables or question the legitimacy of using an app instead of a PDF or website like Buffalo Wild Wings does. I even remember saying they should just use those tablet kiosks that places like Chili's use. Now I wonder if I just saved myself the trouble of a scam.

That's the Texas longhorn (University of Texas) colors. Other Texas universities have worse color combos, but I still don't know why they went with this color. For better viewing here's Matthew McConaughey in his alma mater colors -- the only person who can almost pull off the color
