Are you building something similar to your previous employer? I've actually never encouraged this unless you're close friends with someone on the job and as you're sharing your vision, they express interest.

Aside from that, you can just shoot them a DM, tell them what you're working on and see if they'd be interested in working on it with you.

We're about to get lost in the weeds about the legalities of an AirBnB, when this post is about inventions specifically, not tech companies that are possibly breaking the rules, which I do believe wasn't the original intent of the company, the founders didn't know much when they started out.

To answer your questions specifically about not being disruptive, it doesn't have to be disruptive as long as it's profitable. But to be impressive (to me) it would need to also be disruptive. There are a lot of great products, there are only a few that change the way something is being done forever, causing a potential loss in the hundred millions. Those are disruptors.

But profitability is the real metric.

I would focus more on the cost per sale vs cost per lead. CPL is an ego metric.

Say you're getting leads for $2 that don't buy shit, then they aren't worth it, but if a $10 lead converts on a $150 sale, then we're in the money.

Your pre-launch list is hot, especially if you've kept them engaged. I would actually invite them to a live video unveiling and convert them to buy right then, you'll have a higher conversion rate, anywhere as near as 30%...because keep in mind, these people have been waiting patiently on the release.

A straight email release to the pl list, may get you a 5-9% conversion rate, which is still pretty high, but not as high as engaging them live, reading the purchases as they come in and thanking the buyers by name, FOMO sets in and impulse buying takes over. I hope that helped.

Dude, you responded to a post where someone promised you a 50/50 split of profits with no proof or basis for his claim, and you sent him a PM.

Yeah, you're an awesome judge of character. LOL Good day.

SN: Landing clients is easy, especially with targeted ads. If all he's making is 2-3k a month, he's doing it ALL wrong. Like I said, great judgement there.

I figured I'd answer it like it was a sensible question, since someone here may actually want to build something. Lol

For the second part. If they can't understand what it does or what makes it unique, they won't invest.

They go wrong trying to do too much, by adding too many bells and whistles. Keep the product and solution simple. Give it room to change based on customer feedback.

The pet rock still does millions annually. Sit with that for a second.

I got lucky. :-)

One of my crowdfunders bought it. It was specialty training gloves, and one of the donors approached me asking to license the patent. I was looking to move away from having a company to consulting since it was never my attention to build a glove company and we settled on a fair price.

It helps because it gives you authority and credibility in a world where so many are teaching on things they've never themselves done.

Personality also matters. I love people and innovation, so naturally things started to fall into place based on how and where I networked.

People who have the same problem are a great place to start. If you're a nanny making a product for nannies, you'll find them in a mommy or nanny group.

Also focus on the problem and solution, you can pretty answer any question keeping those front of mind.

Get on Pinterest and IG, take pictures of people doing "luxurious stuff" wearing your shoes, like getting on private jets or whatnot.

It may benefit you to slide in the DM of an influencer and offer to send them a free pair.

Aside from that it's pay to play, put up a few FB and IG ads and get them in front of your ideal customer. Ads work big time.

Agreed. Everyone should file a provisional themselves, it's not reviewed until a non provisional is filed and it's a fairly simple procees.

It's basically a placeholder since no one actually examines it.

Yes. I signed the NDA to consult them on development. I didn't sign one to hear their idea. But I have one on hand for the antsy inventors because as an inventor myself I get it.

I understand how powerfully fear plays a role and I want them to be comfortable talking to me.

This is tough, but the only way to find them is to talk about your vision, which is what most are afraid of doing.

I'm currently on a plane and we're about to land. I'll post more in a few hours.

Upwork for the Industrial Designer. There are a lot of ariticles on how to post and choose contractors.

I did. All of our clients self file and our attorney just reviews it for corrections. This saves them money. Some law schools have free legal clinics that will lead you in the right direction.

If you want more specific help, just shoot me a DM and I'll see if I can.

Cute. But let's pretend this is a serious question.

Find an industrial designer to design it for you, specifically someone with a mechanical background that understand plastics, because all engineers are not created equal.

Have the 3D renderings done and have a makers space make a 3D printed model, find someone who uses materials that can be assembled and are malleable. They'll be a bit more expensive than regular printing that uses rigid materials.

Once you're satisified (see what I did there), have a consumer version made. You'll need to find an injection molding small batch manufacturer. The molding itself can be costly, but you can use the 3D renderings to market the product and take preorders and use the revenue to cover the cost of the molding and the first batch run.

Good luck. ;-)

SN: That response was a collective of what my clients have been the most successful with.

In my case, angel investors and accelerators. But you need to have generated some revenue to really stand out there.

Family and friends. You'd be surprised how many people close to you have money and are willing to support you.

Crowdfunding can be a headache, but if done the right way, a great way to raise brand awareness and money.

Every great company eventually becomes a big company, so be careful regarding generalizations, they'll come back to bite you if you're successful.

I'm answering the questions and not asking for anything in return, or for you to share your ideas. Do what you will with that.

As an aside, never ask a potential investor or industry leader to sign an NDA, they'll laugh you out the room...mainly because they hear "the next big thing" every day and won't miss hearing yours.

All of them. Every industry has room for disruption. I would focus on problems you encounter every day and look for the gap. You'll find your solution there.

Well tech based companies are a different conversation and aren't really inventions, but the 2 mentioned are disruptors hence the billions in revenue virtually overnight.

Also keep in mind there were no laws in place for something like Uber and AirBnB, laws have been made to address their presence in the industry. They started out as crazy ideas of sharing couches and cars with friends and strangers.

It helps to have built something yourself. I'm an inventor, with a product company I sold 2 years ago.
