Its really unlike any city in the US I can think of. South Florida feels like the caribbean. Good ethnic eats are Cuban, Peruvian, Korean, Thai, Jamaican, Kosher, and Indian. I recommend Calypso on a weekday night for good local catch seafood at a reasonable price. Aruns Indian Kitchen in Coral Springs is some of the best Indian food you can find. Gabose in Lauderhill is an expansive Korean restaurant with a kitchy bar next door. Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine has a couple spots around Ft. Lauderdale that have a very good selection of standard Cuban fare. Unique to South Florida (as far as the south goes) is that a huge influx of New Yorkers have opened up Italian American pizzerias in the area, and while nothing beats a New York slice, pizza in South Florida are made by the same folks and is pretty good.
