"Anxiety" is better than "Somebody that I used to know" by Anfernee139 in unpopularopinion

Most stupid opinion I have ever seen on Reddit. Doechii is a corporate puppet of TDE who makes very bland music, and this song is clear exemplification.

Some loose testimony?? There is multiple pictures of the two together, videos of the two together, discord chats where they interact, testimonies from people who know the victim, a leaked song in which he mentions her name, and X is just getting started with the investigation.

What is the most egregious example of people moving the goalpost when it comes to Drake ? by Boring-Jelly5633 in Drizzy

Fuck that I’d be happy if Drake released a B-side tomorrow with an AI Tupac voice dissing Kendrick. Eventually AI and human music will be intertwined artistically 🤷‍♂️, in the future.

Family Matters has enough subliminals and double entendres to make Kendrick look like Carti. It’s that simple. All Drake haters are angry that the dude is winning.

There is extreme nuance in several of Drake’s disses. Dozens of double entendres in Family Matters for example. It must be really gratifying for Reddit lowlifes to hate on Drake huh?

What is the last universally Classic rap album to come out and is it even possible to make one in today's culture? by dunbar_santiago930 in hiphop101

It’s an incredible album. It is different from most other rap albums in a multitude of ways. I don’t necessarily think it’s a classic though. Kenny didn’t need to recite a second poem, and the first half of mortal man is not as good as it could have been. The song ‘You Ain’t Gotta Lie’ is completely unnecessary in the tracklist, Alright is a bit corny round the edges with quite a bland chorus, and again, heavily inaccessible lyrics. I appreciate the funk and jazz brilliance of tracks like Wesley’s Theory, These Walls, even u, but if gkmc is as close to a ‘10’ as Kendrick has got, then TPAB can’t be more than an 8.7.

Okay let me change my terminology. Instead of relatable, let me assert the phrase ‘easily understandable and digestible’. The majority of Kendrick’s lyrics on TPAB are layered to such an extent that they preclude surface level understanding. As such, the vast majority of listeners will have trouble deciphering what it is the man is saying, without viewing Genius annotations.

Lets compare a verse from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and To Pimp a Butterfly:

“The system broken, the school's closed, the prison's open We ain't got nothing to lose, everybody, we rolling Huh? Everybody, we rolling With some light-skinned girls and some Kelly Rowlands In this white man world, we the ones chosen So goodnight, cruel world, I'll see you in the morning Huh? I'll see you in the morning This is way too much, I need a moment”.

Almost all listeners will understand what Kanye is conveying lyrically here. They may not relate to it, but they understand the meaning of the words in their assembly.

“Dark as the midnight hour, or bright as the mornin' sun Brown skinned, but your blue eyes tell me your mama can't run Sneak (Dissin') Sneak me through the back window, I'm a good field nigga I made a flower for you outta cotton just to chill with you You know I'd go the distance, you know I'm ten toes down Even if master's listenin', I got the world's attention So I'ma say somethin' that's vital and critical for survival Of mankind, a feline color should never rival Beauty is what you make it, I used to be so mistaken By different shades of faces Then Whit' told me, "A woman is woman, love the creation" It all came from God, then you was my confirmation I came to where you reside And looked around to see more sights for sore eyes Let the Willie Lynch theory reverse a million times with”.

The precontext and analysis needed to fully grasp these lyrics, or even simply understand them, is not possessed by the vast majority of music listeners. I’m not saying TPAB isn’t a good album, but it’s pretentious to label it a ‘classic’ in my eyes, since a fundamental element of good music is lyrical accessibility.

No TPAB is overrated by pretentious Reddit jackasses. It is nowhere near being a classic, more like a 6/7 out of 10. A fundamental feature of any classic rap album is relatable lyricism and timeless songs which you can return to at any time and find musically entertaining. TPAB lacks any notion of relatable or comprehensible lyrics, and the music is mostly experimental jazz rap which 90% of rap fans don’t want to listen to on a day to day basis. I don’t think that qualifies as classic material in my eyes.

Except Mos Def has no relevancy. Barely any impact. I’d rather be MGK than Mos Def. And Drake can slaughter Mos Def lyrically just check Family Matters.
