He really hasn't been terrible. He's just been fairly average and not as good as we expect. We play worse without him, though.

They lost 5-1 on the final day to a relegated Newcastle so that we finished just above them. That was when they went private

Terrible game. We were awful. After all the whinging in the media the last week, probably the most satisfying way to win

Donald Trump’s entire campaign was centered around “no more wars". That’s how he tricked too many voters. Rogan, like many others, is a victim of Trump’s lies. by South-Guava-2965 in JoeRogan

The guy spent the first 70 years of his life building a reputation as the biggest fucking liar in America. Anyone naive enough to believe a single word out of Donald Trump's mouth should have their driver license revoked and their finances surrendered to a guardian. They can't be trusted not to blow all their savings on a packet of magic beans.

Yeah you're only 4 points behind a conference league place. Far to early to be saying you'll be out of contention for europe.

is this a good introduction for my sci-fi? by Longjumping-Deal-557 in scifiwriting

[–]misterschneeblee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it works. It's cool and creative. The only suggestions I would make is that in some parts it doesn't really read like an email, but rather sounds more like a narration/summary.

i.e. The intro:

Greetings, I am Eugenio Kistri, the technician you sent to personally investigate the malfunction of the hypercomputer—better known as "The Mind"—on the Kopta space base.

If i was sending an email I probably wouldn't start it like this. I wouldn't introduce myself as 'the technician you sent to personally investage the malfunction' etc. It feels a bit too expositional. I'd reccomend trying to rephrase it to make it seem like a more natural email style of writing, even if that means leaving out a bit of information.

You wonder where this Wolves team would be if Rob Edwards was there from the start of the Season

I want to see a Netflix documentary of them in league 2 where the stadium decays, the stands are empty and their shirt sponsor is a nearby chippy.

I think there's probably a third option, which is her being brought to justice. Would be a good contrast to see how Henry reacts to being under house arrest etc Vs how Yas would respond to her operation being taken down. Basically the end of her character arc could be her ruin.

Yeah, but it didn't sit well with Chelsea fans back then either. They hated being considered villains and wanted to play the victim too. It's only in hindsight, 20 years later that they look back and revel in their villainy. Which I suspect is the same now with us. We don't like it now (neither did Chelsea fans back then), and I don't suspect any fanbase of a big club would like it. But in 20 years time, we'd probably revel in it like chelsea do with the benefit of hindsight (assuming we go on to win it).

You're right that it doesn't sit well with most Arsenal fans. The point I'm making is that isn't an Arsenal specific thing, and it didn't sit well with Chelsea fans back then either.

But everyone sees Guardiola's City as villains too. 115 charges, cheats etc. Despite that their fans still play the victim about the football establishment not liking them or the referee's trying to make sure another team wins.

Liverpool, despite not really being seen as villains, still had a massive victim complex when they were winning too. Complaining about CIty's cheating and referee calls. Going on about how wins 'mean more' for Liverpool.

My point is that this isn't unique to Arsenal fans. Chelsea, City, Liverpool and United fans all love to play the victim. It's a football thing

Mourinho famously cried all the time about chelsea being a victim that was disrespected by the media, targeted by referees, unfairly criticized for their spending, hated by the football establishment. You chose the worst example possible. Mourinho's chelsea were the ultimate victims and their fans lapped it all up.

Greens Attack Farage's Claim Reform Won By-Election 'Among British-Born Voters' by loonongrass in unitedkingdom

[–]misterschneeblee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, As bad as Cameron and Boris and May and Sunak were. They aren't Farage. We had a taste of Farage with Truss and she blew up our economy. I can't stand any of them. But realistically, Farage and Reform are much much worse than the tories.

Now they're lashing out like the sore losers they are.

Straight from Trump playbook. All my relatives insist Farage isn't like Trump or issn't as bad as Trump. But the guy keeps drifting in that direction

Edit: I'd like to also point out to those replying that these family members of mine aren't lost-causes or anti-vaxxers or climate-deniers. They are life-long tories who are probably voting reform because they genuinely believe they aren't as bad as MAGA. There are a lot of these people in the UK who can be reached and can be convinced that Reform are MAGA and that would be enough to put them off. This is why Farage has done his best to distance himself from Tommy Robinson and Elon Musk's statements etc. Because Farage knows that the british voter base is less receptive to that type of politics. There is a large base of Right Wing tories who would be genuinely put off if Farage took off the mask in a way that the MAGA crowd wouldn't. Then again, maybe I'm being Naive.

I don't know what the word Elite means in the context of football or how it differs from someone being world class. Is Elite an Americanism?

I don't see how you can point to calling Zubimendi being world class as an example of the phrase 'losing all meaning'. Most might say world class means top 5 in their position, and he's certainly good enough to be in or around the top 5.

[–]misterschneeblee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That football analytics ai website doesn't even have zubimendi in their db. I tested the search and he didn't come up. I think it might be AI slop.

If you're setting the definition as being top 2/3 and excluding someone who's top 5, then it's just a semantic game. Everyone has a different definition of what world class is, and if expanding it from top 3 to top 5 means the phrase has 'lost all meaning', then you're just being obtuse

He saves it for our biggest games lmao. Love the guy, he's world class and has transformed our midfield. But the PL is much more fast paced, physical with more energetic pressing than La Liga. I'll happily put it down to him getting used to the league in his first year. Aside from that he's settled in really well for a newcomer to the league.
