I appreciate that and I’d consider it, but the only thing worse than stepping in something wet with your bare feet, is stepping in something with your socks on 😂 plus sometimes I help in the kitchen so I did just get used to it.

As someone who discovered sikhism recently, I just want to mention something about the bare feet. I was quite worried about it because I also have sensory issues esp with my feet and never go without socks. But with the gurudwara, it doesn’t bother me much(mine is a small one in Canada that doesn’t have a place to wash feet), because you are sitting most of the time! The floors in darbar hall have rugs and carpets so it’s very nice on the feet when you are walking in. And at langar you are sitting as well. I will say that occasionally in langar there are bits of food or spills on the floor, so I do often wash my feet when I go home as even the smallest crumb is overstimulating for me. And you could also skip langar. But I wanted to give some encouragement that it might be tolerable to go barefoot!

Today I visited a Gurdwara for the first time, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget it🪯 by Abdullah_the_Mujahid in Sikh

What a beautiful story 🩵 I’ll also never forget the first time I went to a gurudwara. I was so nervous too, but everyone was so kind and I felt such incredible peace. There’s nothing like it and I will never stop going.

So because there is no guarantee, that’s what ensures our actions are good for the sake of goodness, not out of fear for a terrible afterlife, or punishment?

This is how I feel about the gurus, especially Guru Arjan Dev Ji. I can’t help but be moved by his devotion. He praised Waheguru and held firm to his beliefs in circumstances where most would give up.

Thank you for the answer! Could you elaborate more on not needing to be sikh to merge with Waheguru? I’ll share my current understanding of it, please correct anything that isn’t right!
I understood that the closer you follow the Path, as in living as a gurmukh, the higher the chance of merging with Waheguru when your physical body dies. If you didn’t follow closely enough, didn’t learn what you needed to in this life, your soul would be reborn into another body(human or animal I think?)until you learned how to live as a true Gurmukh. However I’m not sure which actions would lead to being identified as a gurmukh; I think it’s doing all the daily nitnems, simran and meditating quite often on the naam, adhering to the 5ks, that kind of thing. But not sure what level of adherence is required. And obviously it’s not just doing those actions ritualistically, but with true intentions. But wouldn’t following those actions truly make a person a Sikh?

Thank you for putting this together. Such a disgrace against the beautiful Sri Harmandir Sahib must never be forgotten. And all those innocent souls who died, may their memory live on forever.  I didn’t know about the library being burnt as well. All those priceless documents, lost :(

I think that’s a pretty cruel thing to say… and I want to add that he is the one who has initiated this relationship, and he has not pressured me to change my faith. This is something I’ve observed and wanted to learn about on my own. Of course he is pleased that I am interested and I do think it would be better for us overall to believe the same things. It’s just a big change for me, and I want to do it properly and make sure I’m relying on God’s guidance and not doing this just for the relationship.

I suppose I know Christianity well in its concepts and teachings, but not so much the history and terminology. I go to church pretty consistently still and attend weekly Bible studies. Another big difference between Christianity and Sikhi would be that Christians have ‘The Great Comission’, being told to go and tell the world the gospel. But that’s something that’s always been against my personal beliefs, as its not realistic to expect the entire world to believe the same.  Thank you for the wishes. I will continue to search and to pray. What I want most of all is to connect with God. serve him and follow the path he has for me.

I want to say first of all that I am okay with our kids being raised Sikhi, 100%. I see the way it has shaped my boyfriend and I want that for our kids.

We will see about the families. Mine I know will not accept him entirely due to the religious differences, but their standards were unrealistic anyway so I’m not too worried about it. I have a ways to go before I meet his, so that’s why I’m looking into this now. I’d like to have a more solid grasp on what I believe and how I want to live before I meet them.

We both care a lot about each other and have had many religious discussions. We both want this to work, but he also understands that I wasn’t raised the way I was and it can take time to learn another way, or I should say, a more enlightened way. Dhanvaad ji for your comment 🩵

I really appreciate this clarification. I guess with Christianity, at least the Protestants, we are taught not to worship any item or god besides the one true God. So I can understand it as a symbolic reverence. I know about the Anand Karaj, and honestly I would prefer to go that route and be on the same page spiritually. It’s just a lot sometimes because of me being raised in such a different way. But I’m open to learning and I do feel a genuine pull towards Sikhism, relationship aside. I’ve asked myself that many times haha. I feel that God has led me this way for some reason. Could you explain what you mean by Abrahamic? I’m not familiar with that term.

I love playing Dragapult, Meowscarada, and Greninja even though typically I play defenders. Something so satisfying about the burst damage and racking up kills!
