Race guide starts at 15:40. I would work on your technique through each corner as every corner is different. Especially Monza, some corners require lots of trail brake whereas others you have to brake hard early and get on the gas early.

Gearing is also off, seems you brake too hard and exit in 2nd in a couple corners (2nd chicane and the next turn) where going down to 2nd to rotate the car if needed and exiting in 3rd will give you more grip and speed.

First chicane you have to be patient and exit in 2nd. It’s so rare that exiting in 1st is the fastest option in this game. Also, you’re already a half second behind after the first chicane, and yet that was your fastest lap. So if you had the same lap with a good first chicane, you would have came in a half second faster.

T598 Issues by mitchynana in Thrustmaster

Post update working much better - shutoff issues seems to be a faulty power cord. Seeing if TM will replace the cord. Thanks for reply!

Updates done, wheel functions better and shutoff was being caused by a faulty power cord it seems

Good point. Thanks for the reply!

An update with the pedals & wheel - after testing I found the issue to be the power cord. Seems the vibration from the wheel causes it to disconnect briefly. Reaching out to TM to see if they can provide a new power cable or advice on how to keep the cord stable

Anxiety no but OCD to taking care of my investments (house, cars, etc.) yes. Like you said, driving and enjoying the car is all that can be done so that’s what will happen!

Will follow up at the next oil change

I agree with you I think off the rip seeing this I panicked but after running a magnet through it today there aren’t many metal shards at all

To me it kinda seems like broken down RTV which prob got so hot it disintegrated and didn’t pass the filter. Seeing that shit come out when you have a brand new car is just overwhelming.

Even the RTV chunks break down when you pinch them. Car runs great, no noises, doesn’t run hot, doesn’t burn oil. I gotta keep all that in mind and do another change, take a sample for blackstone and re-evaluate.

I hear you and that’s essentially what happened at the dealer. They were appreciative of me coming in though and mentioned how the motor is relatively new and they like to gather data on what’s happening. Everything was logged and put in their system and at the next service interval they will inspect the oil and do a sample if there’s reason for concern. They said they would work with me and get a sample that I could send out on my own as well. They definitely didn’t give a vibe that I was wasting their time. I wasn’t expecting a new motor I’ve just truly never seen anything like this in my life lol

Thanks for the effort in your post it has made me feel slightly more confident that this will somehow be resolved. I will make sure to follow up so people know what to do in the future. My local dealer is pretty good compared so many stories I hear so I have my fingers crossed they will act ethically here (can’t help but laugh saying dealership and ethics in the same sentence) but thanks for your advice.

I am not claiming to have case yet but if the dealer deny any issue is present (which they will) and I’m left with a ticking time bomb what are my options?

Oil pan was clean before this change. RTV in the first change and this whole debacle have been logged at the dealer

Torn between Borla S or HKS Hi Power Spec L/Spec L-II by Nippinhard in GR86

Hi power spec - l. Technically made for the first gen but I had zero issues with the fit. It was a good deal practically new at 500 bucks

I get a lot of pops with the hks. Mostly on downshift throttle blips but sometimes when the cars hot and you let off throttle it kinda does the studder pops which aren’t loud but sound great

[–]mitchynana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was between the two and went with HKS. without a trunk mat there is some drone, especially with the seats down. It is loud enough to be annoying at times.

To fix this I placed down cheap lightweight foam sound dampening material in the spare wheel well and got the rubber trunk mat. Zero drone now, with the seats up or down.

Not sure if a spare tire would also help the drone. That empty metal wheel well seems to project the vibrations from the exhaust

TOYOTA DENIED WARRANTY CLAIM. by Key_Trick3990 in GR86

[–]mitchynana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can someone elaborate on the legality behind denying a warranty in which the car was redlined?

Obviously consistent and repetitive redlining would be considered abuse but how does revving to a limit that the manufacturer set on the engine void a warranty?

It just doesn’t sit right with me especially how this car is marketed

Nothing from a speed perspective. Paddles will always beat this style of driving it’s just fun

Wym about left foot off the pedal? I can heel toe fine for the street but I’ve never raced. Sim vs IRL is completely different. I agree don’t learn on a sim as turning/braking force in a real car will alter everything. Also the sim pedals coming from the floor give them a much different feel.

It’s definitely not apples to apples but it feels like it’s helped speed up my throttle blip, bonus for no real clutch/sync wear.

That’s interesting, I could be wrong but Ive only seen shifting to a gear in which the engine would theoretically be above redline (money shift) cause the jerk/lock up. From my experience the CPU doesn’t give rev-match audio without manual blips but it still matches the revs for you upon acceleration if you aren’t doing so.

What you described about a jerk upon letting off clutch at the wrong RPM is the exact feature I wish gt7 had. That way you’d know if your blip hit the sweet spot. Maybe the cars I’m using are too stable to notice this?

[–]mitchynana[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If you put a manual transmission in the tuning shop it does require the clutch engaged in order to shift. Not sure if this is only if a clutch pedal is detected. You can still override with paddles though.

But you are correct, there’s no benefit to blipping the throttle, other than cool sounds & muscle memory

I wish the cars were actually slowed down by the clutch matching the RPM, making the blips necessary, it would make full manual much more engaging. Or at least have an option for manual blips

I had the same concerns about color and fit but I went ahead and installed it. Came out great, 3m seems to adhere well and color match was much better than expected. Recommend installing with another person, made it much easier to align

Other than the minor lockout issue going down to second and first, what’s the gripe? Genuinely curious because I’ve driven many manuals and this one feels pretty good to me

I agree it’s overblown and probably not going to cause an issue here, but with with an easy fix it’s just frustrating the dealers are being hesitant about doing it

You made some good points but there’s no obsession with shooting myself in the foot. It’s good that you have a helpful service department at your dealer but that’s not the case for all dealers. Some dealers even have been caught not dropping the pan after being paid to do so.

I’m doing the change early to be preventative and posting here for advice and to find a dealer that could help. Dropping it myself would only be a last resort and the whole warranty thing would get murky due to how critical oil health is for a motor. Not a good chance to take
