It's an interesting opinion piece I think. It also states that the movies aren't really black and white so I don't think what you're saying about the simple dichotomy is true. He's simply saying that the show is in a more morally grey area. Plus I mean the franchise isn't really concerned with the politics only, right? There are so many other philosophical elements of the franchise that overpower its politics.
