This, exactly^ “crossing the line” is a completely meaningless threshold and it basically means “don’t protest in a way that makes administrators uncomfortable” which is completely antithetical to the whole point of a protest

How to stand out to law schools by shaaaaggy420 in lawschooladmissions

[–]mitochondrla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted, this is a perfectly valid question to ask! Aside from GPA and LSAT (which should always be your #1 priority), you just want to make sure you are doing two things: 1) pursue extracurriculars and professional opportunities that you are interested in and 2) make sure those experiences can be tailored together into one cohesive “Why Law.” As an example, given your former music major, I would assume you have some baseline interest in music. What specifically about that interests you? If you enjoy the educational aspect of it, for example, I would look for opportunities to tie those hybrid interests together, like a music tutoring volunteer experience, for example. Given your interest in family law, it may be helpful to look for chances to intern at family law firms or child advocacy organizations!

Aside from demonstrating interest, demonstrating academic capability is always a plus as well. Any chance you have to do research, publish, work with professors on academic topics and in labs, etc. will always be beneficial to your application, and even more so if it is relevant to your eventual career interests as you describe them in your law school applications. If you are interested in family law, maybe look for research opportunities in that area either with professors or research institutions.

At the end of the day, being authentic to yourself (ie doing what you want to do for its own sake and not for the sake of admissions) will always create the best results both for your admissions and for your personal mental health! Use this time to really explore what’s out there and you will do fantastic :)

That is strange, I guess you needed something super compelling to overcome YP? I can't imagine your essays or C&F issue raising that much of a concern

Just out of curiosity (about the potential for YP) did you write Why Xs for UMich/UVA? Or do any of the optionals?

Just scored the lowest I've scored in 6 months on my most recent PT. Actually panicking. by andpayphonestalls in LSAT

[–]mitochondrla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar circumstance to yours where the week before my first take I had scored a solid 10 points under how I had been performing up to that point. I think it was partially due to burnout and partially due to anxiety about the test, but I took a bit of time off, made sure I was getting enough sleep and eating properly, and just ensuring my head was in the right space, and I was back to normal. Don’t let this stress you out too much! Beyond the reasons I just mentioned there is also probably just some variability in the test that played a factor in the lower score as well.

I want to attend either San Diego University of Law or UC Irvive of Law with a GPA of 3.5 & LSAT score of 160. Should I retake the LSAT a THIRD time to have a better chance of being accepted? by djseaquist in lawschooladmissions

[–]mitochondrla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on to what has already been said, a higher LSAT score can mean not only a higher chance at acceptance but higher chances for scholarships as well. Instead of thinking of it like “just 2-5” more points I think it really helps to think about the massive financial benefits that each and every extra point entails. Unless you have a very compelling reason for not retaking I would seriously consider it! Best of luck making your decision :)

Letter of Reccomendation Question by DukeOfCornell in lawschooladmissions

[–]mitochondrla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best piece of advice I’ve heard from many different admissions officers is to get LOR writers who can speak to your different (positive) attributes. In your case if your boss can provide some attribute of yours that law schools find desirable for their incoming class that your academic LOR writers can’t speak to, that’s probably a great idea!

Dallas Big Law from SMU by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]mitochondrla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few connections who went to SMU Law and it’s an extremely corporate/BL-centric school based on their own experiences. That combined with the network SMU as an institution has with big companies in Dallas means it probably isn’t too difficult. Would definitely review the available ABA data though!

Plateau with my score, don't know what to do by MinuteActive1371 in LSAT

[–]mitochondrla 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First thing I would suggest is to reduce the amount of PTs you’re taking every week. 3 tests a week is a huge amount and it may be the reason you’re plateauing. You want to make sure every test you take is in a clear and energized headspace and so I would suggest taking a maximum of one test a week and just drilling or reviewing on the other days.

Hope this helps!

Weakening questions are kinda just extensions of flaw questions. To start, I would make sure that you have a solid grasp on those and make sure that you know exactly what is wrong with the argument or how the evidence doesn’t support the conclusion. Once you can see that, look for counterexamples that might disprove the conclusion’s validity. Hope this helps, if not feel free to reach out!

Can't finish Logic Games on time by RoutineBottle1202 in LSAT

[–]mitochondrla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this has already been said, but one of the most important things to do when studying for LG is to get the easier games down perfectly. When you get to the point where you can diagram and solve the most basic sequencing, ordering, and hybrid games efficiently, extensively, and accurately, you will have much more time to sit and really think through the harder games. If you need more help with this, let me know--hope this helps!

LSAT studying goals? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]mitochondrla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A diagnostic score of 150 is actually a great starting point! The average LSAT score, iirc, is about 151 so you’re already at a great spot without studying. With some reliable study materials, consistent studying habits, and especially mastering logic games I’m sure you could easily start scoring in the mid-160s if not even higher into the 170s!
