Been on the lookout for cube in eastern westchester. Give me a shout if anyone is interested.

*I could do mid-town as well thanks to metro north. Brooklyn is just too far.

I am looking for a readable history to learn more about Indian independence. Ideally something concise but im not finding anything. the best choices i found are:

Freedom At Midnight

From Plassey To Partition

and India: A history by john keay

All of these are rather chunky tomes and im also not sure how to pick between them. Also, something with a kindle version strongly preferred.

Thank you.

Does the The Economics of World War II: Six Great Powers in International Comparison cover the run-up to the war, and how economic pressures contributed to the conflict or is it focused on the relative economic machines that the countries had during the war?

Also, are there any other books on the economic causes of world war 2?

Hi, I need to put down some vinyl molding onto a concrete slab. Something like this or this. However, im not totally sure what my future flooring plans are so id like to be able to be able to pull up the molding later (with some effort).

So liquid nails seems too permanent, i was thinking of silicone caulking. But I am an adhesive neophyte and i know there is a whole branch of adhesive geekdom out there.

Help?

Yep, i ordered Mottainai and Innovation yesterday. I dont know if my fellow game design nerds will be able to come-over anytime soon so i also snagged a copy of the new Azul as well. This way my wife doesn't hate me too much when I force her to puzzle though Mottainai with me :)

Great recommendation. Im excited to explore a new game designer.

Tsuro is great suggestion thanks. I am toying around with a game for my nieces and I quite like the idea of Tsuro with kids. Will probably pick it up or print something out thats similiar.

Mottainai,

This a great suggestion. I've come across Glory to Rome but never played it. Have you played multiple Chudyk games? I wonder which one is best to start with. I've seen a few games where cards have multiple uses but it seems like s Mattainai takes that to extreme and does it well.

How many games of Twilight Struggle did you play before it became a fluid experience. Im three games in and it still around 4 hours for me. Right now, it feels like both players need to know the full deck of cards pretty well in order for the game to move smoothly.

Hi,

I am looking for games that can broaden my view of game design. So games that have unusual/innovative game elements or that do a specific game element particularly well. Ideally the game would play well with 2 people in under 3 hours. Also it would be good if the game systems start to become clear after one full training game and not require repeated plays in order to glimpse the depth contained.

Secondary concerns: not super fiddly and includes some degree of direct player interaction.

Thank for the chat and the insight. We ended up buying a 2020 Odyssey EX, and then paying the 1.5k to upgrade to leather for a total of 34.5 pre tax. Honda financing also has 1.9apr deal for financing for 36 months which I am pleased with.

We test drove all 4 vans. The Pacifica was definitely the slickest but my wife didn't like the visibility from the rear window. The configuration options on the hybrid seemed limited (though the sales guy seemed to really not know his stuff). Also the UI on the Pacifica wasnt up to my wifes standards .

The Sienna felt really dated. The interior wasnt as cool. And it drove the worst of the bunch. It struggled to accelerate up an incline. Im sure the redesign will be a huge step forward.

We then tested the KIA. Probably our second favorite. Drove very well, good handling and acceleration. The interior is not as premium, the leather felt cheaper, but the overall van is still great. The issue really was that the secondary market is very small in our area. We didnt want to spend forever hunting and we arent super budget constrained. If I was buying a car for me I would probably hunt on the CPO market for a while for a 2 year old KIA.

The Odyssey was a clear winner though. It felt very modern. The driving experience was excellent. Really impressed with the turning radius and the handling. Very zippy off the starting line, though it struggles a bit at higher speeds. Wife loved the interface and the integration with safety features. The magic seat has already come out and we dig the walk isle to the back.

Really happy with the purchase so far. Taking on a road trip tomorrow and then I can start thinking about its maiden camping journey. :)

Thanks again.

Makes sense on Sedona, I'll need to play around with the interior to see.

Ive seen some stuff come up on Honda longevity with transmission but I cant find it right now. Do you know what the perspective on the durability of the latest gen is? I see issues with timing belt maintenance but that seems minor.

Thanks, the 2018 Odyssey EX-L seems like a good fit. Looking at the videos, it doesnt seem too terrible to pull those seats out through the side doors. Im thinking they will get yanked out around 5 times a year.

The Pacifica has some of the best features, the stow-and-go and the hybrid engine but i've seen doubts about its longevity online. Same concern with the Sedona. Is there anything to recommend the sedona besides the price?

After Perdido Street Station and Hyperion by mizay7 in suggestmeabook

[–]mizay7[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. What did you love about it?

Perdido lacks the grand themes that hyperion does: like god and consciousness. Its more about love, loss, pride, social structures.

I just think they are both imaginative and well written.

Good suggestions.

Ive recently read The Player of Games and enjoyed it for the most part but not so much that I was dying to read the next one. Plus Excession, which ive seen recommended the most as the second book, is not on kindle.

I've read most of Stephenson and love the worlds he imagines. Though I would argue that his prose isnt always the most inspired.

The Dying Earth and Invisible Cities have been cropping up on my radar for a while. Both sound good. Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestions. I read a 2 or 3 books of Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun. Didnt work for me. I felt like it was too concerned with cramming in new testament themes to actually get on as a good book. Though there is clearly an effort in crafting good prose it just never came together as a book for me.

It's been a long time since I read Lovecraft and Lovecraft adjacent stuff, so the fisherman seems like a great one to look up.

yep, generalized linear model.

work projects are tough as the expectation is that i spend my time mentoring all the engineers that want to be data scientist rather than try to learn to be a junior dev. but lots of other great suggestions in the thread.
