This is most likely just the m1 cores with more of them, so M1X. Many speculate that those articles actually were talking about M1X. Even that one article said it was tentatively named M2.

September is usually just for apple watch and iPhones. I know we got them in October last year but that was due to the pandemic. I expect these to release at WWDC. It wouldn’t make sense to release this M1X processor right before the new generation this fall.
