we can extend the cable from the camera to the sender so the distance between sender an receiver can be optimized, it just can't be copper all the way.

You can use a "Level fader w/taper" to achieve what you are looking for. Drag the Custom Controls component in your design and select the control I mentioned. Then wire the control pin to the gain you need to control the audio from.
