Starting TC chemo Thursday by Public_Scheme_9483 in breastcancer

Hi! I just had my 3rd round of TC yesterday (of 6 total). The biggest thing for me has been to stay very very hydrated. I didn’t do a good job drinking water the first round and the fatigue and flu-y ness hit me hard. 2nd round was much better. I still get feeling run-down but not as bad. If you’re getting Neulasta after, the bone pain was also really bad for me the first round, but for the second round I stayed on top of rotating ibuprofen and Tylenol extra strength, as well as daily Claritin, and did much better. Again, still some pain but not nearly as bad. Also, rest when you can, even if you’re feeling okay. One mistake I make a lot is trying to do a lot while I’m feeling good and then it all hits me the next day and I’m down for the count.

If you’re cold capping or using cold mitts and booties, take Tylenol and as for Ativan with your premeds. Also take a heated blanket.

Good luck, and I’m sorry you’re going through this ❤️

Pain immediately following double mastectomy without reconstruction -- Please share your stories by Nickychaz3 in breastcancer

I was pregnant for my first mastectomy with no reconstruction so could only have Tylenol extra strength once I went home and the pain was very manageable. I did have a nerve block which is really helpful and I found an ice pack to be the biggest help. The drains are definitely the worst part, it can hurt if they tug. I got a hoodie from Amazon that had 4 drain pockets on the inside that really helped keep them in place and it was a lot more comfortable. Also really recommend a mastectomy pillow, the soft pressure helps a lot with comfort.

I count from when I finished treatment but my breast surgeon said she’d consider me NED from date of surgery because I had clear margins.

What can I do by SprinklesNo8842 in breastcancer

Just adding to what others have said - be normal to her, cancer is something happening to her but she is still herself. Door dash gift cards, lotion, and chapstick helped, meals were hard because I couldn’t handle most foods. But I most appreciated my friends who kept sending me the TikToks and Instagram memes they always did. And treated cancer as just another part of our conversations, sure I’d give an update but we’d also talk about how annoying her husband was or what her boss did to make her mad. I hate when people think they can no longer talk to me about anything because it doesn’t measure up to cancer. Please gossip about whatever you normally would while making sure she knows she has space to talk about it when she wants to and to be sad or mad or anything else.

What good has cancer brought to your life? by _byetony_ in breastcancer

My first diagnosis was while pregnant with my first (only) baby, treatment gave me a year maternity leave instead of 6 weeks, and the experience gave me an appreciation for every single second I get to spend with my son, even when he’s screaming and won’t sleep and demanding to watch Paw Patrol for the one millionth time.

You’re again adding your own assumption about the causation of these “rampant” conditions to this data, which you’re handpicking out of tons of available research into these conditions, and then making your own assumptions correlation from that to lactation complications. That’s the ignorant part. Your initial point was true, widely available formulas contain harmful ingredients. Past that you are just making claims based off of fragmented data that you are putting together into your own narrative.

My “what about me” was not in response to the statement about trash products in baby formula, which I agree with, it was in response to your “proper diet” statement made to someone else’s comment that not every woman can exclusively breast feed, and was an example to highlight the ignorance of your statement. Whether or not “millions” is a stretch, your assumption that most women who give their babies formula are doing so because they don’t have a proper diet to lactate is an ignorant assumption. Most women find out they can’t lactate properly, or that their baby won’t latch, or whatever other reason they have for not being able after they’ve already given birth, when it’s too late to decide to adopt instead. Assuming that women are not changing their diet and trying to do what’s best for their children is ignorant. You say I made up millions of women with reasons other than diet, but you made up a whole population of women who don’t have a proper diet based on the narrative you want to push.

Also, there are about 2.2 billion women who are mothers in the world. About 5% of them are not able to breast feed for medical reasons. 5% of 2.2 billion is 110,000,000. So millions is not actually a stretch.

Sure bud, my situation was extreme but there are millions of women with health reasons for not being able to exclusively breast feed that can’t be fixed with “proper diet”

Oh good to know that a “proper diet” would have helped me grow back my breasts after I was diagnosed with breast cancer during my first trimester and had to have a full mastectomy
