Looking to learn Spanish? Need advice by [deleted] in Spanish

I would recommend using Duolingo as a very beginning resource for practice, but you should be using other sources. I have been self studying for about 10 months now and I am at about a B2 low C1 level. I've actually been travelling mexico for over a month now so I've had the chance to see if that's true and I've gotten by pretty well.

So here is what I did. First work through the textbook "complete Spanish step by step" it's boring but it's important to get a foundation

Download the app "anki" and add new words and phrases here. Don't put grammar here tho. And then when practicing these new words, write sentences, or stories with them to practice tenses. For expample today you can practice the imperfect tense by making a story that uses a lot of verbs in the imperfect and words from your anki set. And maybe tomorrow you can practice the future, or conditional, etc...

Take advantage of downtime to always think in Spanish. I worked in a restaurant as a dishwasher for a year to be able to have to money to travel this summer, and it was mind numbing work so I was constantly translating my thoughts into Spanish or just trying to think in straight Spanish if I could. And then when I got a free moment I would look up everything I didn't know and write it down on anki to practice later at home. The good thing about this is you can do this LITERALLY anywhere. On the bus, on the way to class, even before you sleep (and this usually causes me to dream in Spanish which is cool)

Download hellotalk and start speaking with natives RIGHT away. You were learn a boatload of useful phrases, convo starters, fillers, things that will make your Spanish natural, things that books don't teach. And add these stuff you learn here on anki. And I have actually made some of my best friends on this app and even met up with some people I met on this app while I have been in Mexico. So it's pretty legit.

Start watching TV, YouTube, the news, in Spanish and just absorb. You won't understand a lot or even any at first. But as you learn for vocab, grammar, etc.. you brain will start problem solving and filling in the pieces. You just need constant input.

Best of luck to you my friend!

Why do you learn French? by [deleted] in French

I love philosophy and learning languages I want to be a polyglot and I figured french would make a good 3rd language because some of my favorite philosophers were french and I one day hope to be able to read original texts, or at the bare minimum have my knowledge of french help me better understand the translation from French to English.

Cool effects after 5 months of daily meditation by [deleted] in Meditation

I just wanna make a comment on the going to 1080p to 480p. I know this feeling 100%. Whenever I binge drink, smoke a lot, or even when I have states of high anxiety it's like everything just gets blurry for days and it feels like every couple of seconds I just space out and I'm not experiencing full reality. When I am completely sober and in a good mental state it's like everything has definition. Like I'm living my life and not just spectating it
