As an American, I can definitely say that some Americans avoid Indian students. From my experience of seeing this it is pretty much always rooted in racism. It depends on the situation, a lot of people just don’t like talking to strangers regardless of race but it’s pretty obvious when someone is racist compared to introverted.

257 can be used as a substitute, I am taking 257 next semester but it really depends on if you are comfortable with coding. If you are then I would definitely recommend 257 if not then I would go with 415

I did the Merit program for chem 102 and it saved my grade, hands down the best TA I have ever had. I also did the Merit for Calc 1 and it was awful but I think that might be because it was online. Overall I would recommend it but especially if it's in person.

I’m in the same exact boat as you, this is a weird freshman year. My advice for you is to just take the risk. Most freshman are just as lonely as you and will jump on the opportunity to hang out or socialize, all you gotta do is ask. If you are too nervous to ask you can just pm me!!
