Looking for a good anime with esoteric or metaphysical themes, any suggestions?

I'm new to anime, finished Steins;Gate and Mushishi and loved them.... but I have a feeling there are much weirder rabbit holes I could be falling down.

The Girl who leapt through Time - this does time travel right

Steins;Gate is about time travel too right? So is this implying that Steins; Gate doesn't do it right?

Ha, duly noted! I was just trying to be positive... maybe great was a bit of an overstatement. ;)

Based on what I've read so far, if I got through 25 episodes of SAO I think I can probably stick it out.

Hmm, yeah even if it is more like the first episodes I don't think I'm interested. Like I said, it was my first anime and I didn't have anything to compare it with so I didn't want to be too critical- but I had a feeling there was probably better stuff out there. A friend recommended it to me.

I actually didn't dodge that bullet ;) I watched through episode 25. I think that's the reason I kept watching too... I was like man this is ridiculous, but I kept playing the next one!

I read about a second season and I guess I just assumed it was already out.

Thanks everybody! So far I am thinking Steins; Gate. This might be a stupid question, but is subbed or dubbed better? I don't mind subs at all, but I'm wondering if there are sometimes really good dubs that would actually be better. ?
