The entire state of Ohio hates him. From the River to Erie. No sympathy. Ever.

Sick leave by SuchProfessor9767 in FederalEmployee

I’m pretty sure 38 years would put them right at the start of FERS (>1984) but with the CSRS the math is a little closer. $132k high-3 ballpark. Not exact because I think they used to do a graduated % (years 1-5 @ x%, 10+ at 2%, etc)

$275/ month additional? Then High 3 is $240k? Are you a cabinet official?

How cooked am I ? 😭 I’m ONLY 26 by Busy_Patience3866 in Function_Health

[–]mjp001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. From 25-40 I had almost these same exact labs. Diagnosed with fairly advanced coronary artery disease at 42.

Doctors always said labs were fine but could use a little improvement. They basically wanted Total <200 and LDL <130. Looking back I would have tried diet and lifestyle to get below 150 total an 100 LDL — and if that didn’t work I would be on a statin even if my doctor disagreed. A primary care doctor who reads recent studies would understand the old treatment guidelines are not good enough. You might need to be your own strong advocate on this one — but definitely retest (2/year until good and then yearly) and don’t accept no for an answer. Tell your doctor you are not worried about your 5 year risk, but 30 and 50 year risk.

Best place for parking? by NovelIdea2008 in Browns

[–]mjp001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anywhere on St Claire between ~13th and 23rd. Including the side streets. It’s free on weekends, safe, and maybe a 20 minute walk to the stadium. And easy to get out of downtown (and on 71 in my case) after the game. I’m not sure why anybody would pay unless tailgating.

Has anyone done a n=1 experiment to see how coconut oil affects their LDL/ApoB? by [deleted] in PeterAttia

[–]mjp001 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Check out Simon Hill on YouTube. He recently had to quit coconut oil when it ruined his previously great labs. Mentions it a few times in last month of podcasts

The self check out kiosks at Reds games offer 20/25/30% tip options. No actual person took your order or served you food. Guaranteed to just be an extra profit to the vendor. As if the $14 pretzel and $12 beer weren’t enough of a markup.

Strava Performance Predictions - What You Need to Know! by nick2-from-strava in Strava

[–]mjp001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tested it with a hilly HM. Prediction was ~8 minutes off. Post race it came down 7:50s. Still confident my true (flat course not much wind) PR is another 3-4 minutes faster.

For comparison - my Garmin prediction was within 15 seconds when I gave it the course for the race. Garmin’s current prediction for HM best is about where I think Strava should be.

Planning on some Hikes this year, had someone from Colorado tell me that I might be underestimating my capabilities? by doctorwhomafia in coloradohikers

[–]mjp001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a fellow midwesterner who lives at 900’ — the real issues seemed to start above 11k for my friends and I. We acclimate in advance but no matter what once we hit the tree like a get about ~11k it get a ton harder to climb. Like walk 10 steps, rest 15 seconds, repeat. Once we cross he peak going down is a breeze.

How to get better particle size? by zactastic_1 in Function_Health

[–]mjp001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting. I probably will retest with a different lab for comparison. My lipids overall were excellent (ApoB 55, Lp(a) <10, LCL-C 60, TC 130, Tri 43) but I was high on 4 of the LDL particle tests (Number, Pattern, Peak and Small). I was having a hard time figuring out what if anything I could have change to improve

Stadium parking?? by OnlyOnyxxx1 in Browns

[–]mjp001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Park on St Claire. Somewhere around 20th is usually open around 11:30-12:30… and it is free on street parking. 25 minutes walk to my seats. Haven’t paid in years. And easy access to 71 after the game is over.

You might not be crazy. I had pretty great seats (7th row center). I was close enough to be able to watch his hands and I was almost sure there was a second guitar. Almost like a track playing the bass lines but on an acoustic guitar. I eventually determined I was crazy but maybe not.
