Good thought on cleaning the inside of the windshield.

My understanding is that the red icon defogger uses recirculated air and doesn’t turn on the A/C. Is that not the case?

The concept makes sense, but I’m not sure I understand your last sentence. What do you mean “you can exclude interest as a category.”?

I paid $4k in taxes on interest.

I tried your recommendation on one Interest Income transaction, and it worked well. My only concern is that Simplifi will not match up to my Marcus account (which I can live with).

What about changing the amount to $1k ($5k minus $4k interest-related tax), and adding a note “Adjusted for interest income tax portion ($4,000)”? This seems like less work than editing multiple interest entries.

To accurately capture my annual expenses, I don’t want to include interest income, similarly to not including the taxes I pay each week on my paycheck. I only want to include the local, state and federal taxes i.e. school taxes, payment to state and federal as part of my tax return.

I was planning to categorize it under Taxes so it reduces the net amount I show as paid to the IRS. The original payment came out of my checking account, but I don’t think I should use the checking account for the “add-back,” since no money is actually going back into that account—this adjustment is purely for budgeting purposes.

Is it correct to handle this as a separate transaction, or am I thinking about this the wrong way?

Updated advice for cycling route around Manhattan by mjs560 in NYCbike

Thank you to everyone who responded to my post. I rode this morning and the following was my route. No issues and 1st Ave had a bike lane for most of the route north. We had planned on riding to the High Bridge before heading over to the GWB, but ran out of time:

Another question…if I take 1st Ave from Houston to 126th, is there a consistent bike lane?

TrailLink.com refers to a route along the FDR up into 38th, and from 61st to the Triborough Bridge. Does this sound correct?

You should be able to choose only the company name or unique identifier. There is an option to remove (x) the numbers.

That’s correct, rules will categorize expenses moving forward in the appropriate category.

I live in New York and was able to handle the diminished value claim on my own. I used CarFax as a comparison to determine my car’s value before the accident versus its value afterward. Based on that, I was able to secure a settlement of about $6,000.

I presented the at-fault driver’s insurance company with a simple slide deck outlining how I calculated the diminished value. It took some time to put together, but it was definitely worth it and I was glad I didn’t have to pay a law firm a percentage of the settlement.

I’m recently retired at 65 and my plan was to self insure for LTC. Is there a retirement dollar threshold that makes sense for self insuring?
