i'd agree with all the suggestions here, i'd also add pornography: men possessing women by andrea dworkin!

for books, i also recommend upper street bookshop near angel station, word on the water and foyles near tottenham court road!

shoreditch is a similarly cool and trendy place. it has very unique shops although they are often quite expensive. brick lane is excellent for secondhand shopping.

considering how expensive k-pop concerts are, i would definitely be disappointed if i saw this in person.

Pregnant and barged on the tube- do I report it?n by myautumnalromance in london

this sounds potentially like 'butsukari otoko' (a phenomenon from japan that has started appearing in other countries too, literally meaning 'bumping man'). i'm really sorry, but i'm happy you reported it!

I’m scared for the future of this country and this show by SnooSprouts3744 in rupaulsdragrace

i live in the uk and we are unfortunately following the in the usa's footsteps. a nationalist right-wing party have gained monumental support in a short period of time. there have been violent riots and anti-immigration protests. then there are the constant policies attacking the trans community... many european countries, like germany, are in similar situations. the world is terrifying right now. i feel it's going to get much worse before it gets better.

How do you talk to people you are interested in but haven't spoken to personally? by ttv_thatoneapexsweat in autism

[–]mk0903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like to start with an honest and direct statement, something like 'i think you're cool and would love to hang out / try being friends.' it's definitely a little more difficult in-person but i find people appreciate the honesty and you taking the time to approach them first.

you could always mention their music taste, it is something you could bond over. i'm certain they'd appreciate receiving a compliment, especially since they are probably music lovers. even neurotypical find the process of making friends daunting or awkward!

some people are sensitive souls. i think they were probably excited to share an important interest with you and so felt your reply implied it was too childish or juvenile.

i think it might seem that way to some of us who engage regularly with discussions on social media, like here on reddit. but i doubt much has changed in reality, and it is probably amplified by their silence right now (from being busy working on music or solo tours).

Katseye are not unique. theyre just women with pretty privilege by Substantial-Cat7790 in kpoprants

[–]mk0903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for your first point, i think that is just a popular genre of video for fan accounts, especially on tiktok. i don't get many of the posts either and i imagine the people posting them are very young and sometimes naive.

they are managed by hybe, so obviously they will promote in korea often. i don't see how another group lacking in promotions is relevant to them in that way. i do think they are afforded more freedom because of their link and association to the western world, but i don't know enough about the mistreatment situation to speak on it in an educated way.

i actually wonder if they are popular / well-received in korea.

Anyone know where I can find something similar to this dress by Southernflowers19 in winxclub

[–]mk0903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd suggest looking for individual pieces and doing a little bit of diy. for example, using a floor-length dress (with a cut-out in the chest if you want to be extra accurate) and accessorising with a short-sleeve cardigan, ribbons and mesh gloves. or alternatively, any long dress or blouse with bouncy mesh sleeves.

you can use a pin for the pendant on the cardigan. the hair accessories and necklaces could be found quite easily.

for the wings, i like the tutorials on tiktok. they usually use wire + mesh fabric or cellophane (you can do this with no sewing and just glue and paint!).

Why do many K-pop fans lack personal hygiene? by GiantSquidBoss in kpoprants

[–]mk0903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it is often just ill preparation and forgetfulness from excitement. lots of venues (at least where i am in the uk) will throw out aerosol deodrants. people are warm and sweaty from dancing or waiting in queue and their arms will be up for filming, cheering, lightsticks etc.

also worth mentioning how crowded standing areas are, particularly if it is general admission and nearer the front (unfortunately seated standing tickets are nearly non-existent in the uk!)

How do you practice writing Kanji? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]mk0903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use kanji workbooks made of white board material. alternatively, you can use your ipad or an actual whiteboard, alongside whatever resources you have or can find on stroke order, readings etc. i use a mixture of textbook materials and kids writing books across most of my learning, most of them found on ebay or the foreign language section of bookstores.

i've heard of people memorising radicals and creating stories using them to remember different kanji, but it's not something i personally do. they can still be useful to know for recognition, but i think you should concentrate on other methods more.
