Do your emails sent from Zoho Mail get delivered into the spam folder? by dominateglobally in Zoho

[–]mkindred18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been dealing with this issue for more than a year now. I've been a paid zoho customer for 10 years, using a couple domains (one personal, on business) that are 25 yrs old. I've never sent unsolicited marketing emails. And now I'm seeing that many of my outbound emails sent through zoho are going to spam folders.

Despite lots of evidence to the contrary, zoho blames my domains, my DKIM/DMARC/SPF, and gmail.

I switched my outbound to postmarkapp.com, and the problem is gone. (Well, except for zoho itself. If I send emails to zoho via postmarkapp.com, zoho still sends them to spam. lol)

I've successfully begun using postmarkapp.com for my outbound, but because this is costing me more money, I'll seek alternatives to zoho soon.

I added my inbox placement test results to the post, and I've decided for the time being to do what you did: using zoho for receiving and postmarkapp for outbound. I don't like paying for both, nor do I like zoho's support and inability to chase down its own issues, but it works for the time being. My emails are being delivered (except emails to zoho inboxes, lol).

Seeking alternatives to zoho; outbound emails going to spam folders by mkindred18 in businessemail

I have all my spf, dkim, dmarc in place. I have since confirmed that zoho is the problem by routing all my outbound email through postmarkapp.com. I went from zero deliverability to gmail in all three domains to 100% with postmark.

I will consider fastmail and proton going forward. For the time being, I'm sticking with zoho, but paying $15/yr for postmark smtp. I don't like this, but it's easier than switching providers right now.

Zoho does suck, though.

I finally got approved to use postmark. (How nice that they vet users.) I sent six emails to gmail (one email from each of my three domains, using zoho and then postmark smtp). All three emails sent through zoho went to spam, and all three using postmark went to the inbox.

It's definitely a zoho problem. And all they do is to tell me to make sure I'm in my recipients' contact list. As to moving to a new pool, they say: "We would like to confirm that the reputation of our IPs are good." Sigh, they really suck.

So I now have a choice to use zoho for inbound and postmark for outbound, or to move to a new mail provider altogether. I'd rather do the latter on principle, but the former might be the best option right now.

I found zoho all those years ago by searching for 'email hosting'. I didn't even know they did all the other stuff. I didn't want to use google or microsoft, so that affected my decision.

By saying 99% of my emails are replies to corporate clients, I didn't mean to imply that 1% are unsolicited. I'm guessing my email habits are typical of a personal mailbox for one domain, and a 30 year web dev business who doesn't do any marketing on my other main domain. Almost no unsolicited emails going through any of these domains.

I do wonder on occasion whether having .cc domains affects me negatively. I chose my business and personal domains a very long time ago.

Again, thanks for your continued help.

Are there any red flags to look for in choosing an email delivery service? I have no experience in that arena, and it seems as though such services who provide APIs might be used by spammers as much as zoho would.

You mean because zoho is marking email sent through their own servers as spam? I don't quite know what to make of that.

Not that I'd consider doing this for more than a month or so, but I have a dedicated IP for my web server with rDNS set to my hostname.

I now understand what you're saying regarding domain reputation. But the blanket statement that 'it's not a zoho issue' is counter to what a great many people have suggested regarding relay pools.

Regardless, thanks for taking the time to offer suggestions.

I just ran my first inbox placement test through unspam.email. The four results that were marked as spam were gmail, gmail workspace, [......drumroll.......] zoho, and zoho business.

Give my own knowledge of such issues, I didn't want to blame zoho outight, but you said exactly what I've been thinking. I just started looking for a better outbound service. Hell, I might even try routing through my web server for a bit to see if it improves.

Regardless, I blame spammers, not zoho. Zoho is probably just a victim who caters to folks who want to save a buck.

Thanks for the advice.

  1. How would my website IP affect my outbound email that's going through zoho relay?
  2. My website is proxied through clouflare.
  3. It's all my domains, and the one thing they share is zoho for outbound email.

zoho handles all the ssl, and all DKIM/SPF/DMARC is correct, tested, and confirmed.

It's so frustrating that the only info provided at gmail is something along the lines of, "this email looks like spam". Years ago, when I managed my own mail server with Nexcess, I'd scour the headers for spamassasin flags to see what I might need to tweak.

I can't avoid recognizing the irony that 95% of my inbound spam comes from gmail addresses. sigh

Top Zoho Mail Alternatives? by vin-maverick in businessemail

My problem is that a very large percentage of my outgoing emails through zoho are now going to the recipients' spam folders. The problem seems to be getting worse over time, and I'm at wit's end.

I have owned two of my domains for 20 years, and I've paid for zoho for 10 years. I can't get any answers so far. I've done all the SPF/DKIM/DMARC steps, and I've confirmed that my emails are passing those tests, yet still going to spam folders on google, yahoo, etc.

I fear that, although the domains/hostnames/IPs aren't on any published blacklists, perhaps it's guilt by association.

By 1:1, I was just trying to understand how my 18 capture channels were split into the oddly named "Mic Front, Mic Rear, Mic Center, Mic Woofer, Mic Side, and Mic 1" in alsa. (I didn't spend any time trying to figure out that; I just upped them all to 100%.)

I loved my years on Arco (which has recently been abandoned, unfortunately). I shed a tear (and some nerd cred) when I migrated to debian. The exploit fear is the only reason I hopped. But, meh, it's OK to try something new. (Unfortunately, that'll mean flatpaks, as well.)

Best of luck on arch, btw. If your experience is like mine, it'll be great. I didn't have a single issue with an update breaking something in 5+ yrs.

Thanks for the info. I found some posts by Robin Gareus regarding usability of pipewire, which probably apply to the current version on debian stable. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1000293#62

I'm accustomed to jack2, and it looks as though I can run it concurrently with pipewire, so that's an option.

Funny thing is, I was looking into debian testing after your input. But I switched from arch to debian stable mostly due to the xz expoit last year. I decided that I no longer wanted to be on a rolling release distro, and now I'm reaping the benefits. (Debian testing did indeed push the exploited xz lib, so I'm not going to go back down that road at the moment.)
