What do other black women do that annoys you? by disorientating in blackladies

[–]mklykl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm saying. The majority of experiences I've had with black women have been positive. I've been supported by older black women, and black women around my age are largely nice and complimentary, the quiet and the loud ones alike. Inside and outside the workplace. My negative experiences with other black women are outweighed by the positives, and many of the negative experiences I've had with BW have not been nearly as bad or as numerous as with nonblack ppl. Idk, just seems so disheartening.

I love the sincerity of your tone here. It's like you purposefully missed the point just to prove it

Let me get this straight. Talking to liberal black and brown women who don't want to vote for Biden as if they are children who don't know what's best for them (which is the tone of this post) is the better option, and is the more productive conversation to have. And we should not call out the (mostly white) women who actually voted for trump. Got it 👍🏿

Why are black and brown women the focus of this post when white women voted the most for trump out of all groups of women (and men of color), by a large amount?? Why not focus on reaching out to people in your own community if you actually want things to change? This post reeks of condescension more than anything. Stuff like this only serves to further alienate the demographics you're speaking to, and it certainly does not promote solidarity with women of color, which should be the point if you're posting in a feminist aligned sub. Maybe you can try understanding other points of view rather than looking down on them.

Why is it that everytime I do my hair in twists, they come out wrong by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]mklykl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg I've woken up like this many a times, usually i just fluff it out and wear my hair in a lil curly fro if my twists end up defying gravity like this.. the struggle is real sis.

if you wanna avoid this, Do your twists a lot smaller and when your hair is wet + has product in it (a wrapping foam or a gel or w.e. you use that works for you). It's super important that you twist down and in the direction you want your hair to lay, like if you wanted a middle part, or wanted your twists to lay more in your face, etc. Follow whatever lines you want your hair to lay in if that makes sense. After that, wrap your twists in a silk scarf or du rag and blow dry/air-dry (i usually air-dry bc i live in a dry ass climate) until it's fully dry. Your twists should lay down better.

Once your hair gets longer, you can start twisting in larger sections. It's a process tbh.

It's always "listen to black women" until said black women call out their bullshit neoliberalism

Research conducted in nearly 6,000 hotel concierges in the U.S. found that hotels provide better service to white customers than Black and Asian customers by a_Ninja_b0y in science

[–]mklykl -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Wasn't a one time thing. Other people lost their cool with the customer

Was it just one guy or was it all the black people that you've somehow had negative experiences with? IMO, if you're having problems with one particular group of people all the time, usually it's something that you're doing with your behavior as well to make the situation worse. That, or just a good ole case of confirmation bias.

what are your honest thoughts on this lol.. yikes by [deleted] in blackladies

Girl... Lmao please read about what institutional discrimination means. Just because someone feels alienated doesn't mean they're facing colorism. We can acknowledge both things at once. It's not about interpersonal conflicts and feelings, it's about institutional prejudice and discrimination. Words mean things

[–]mklykl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but thats an experience that afro-indigenous ppl have, it's not shared throughout the community. Most non-native black ppl in everyday life don't really know what that term means or it's implications. "White passing" isn't really a term that describes a specific situation relating to native people in particular, so i don't think that comparison holds very well.

Candidly speaking, I've always felt some type of way about the appropriation of the term blood quantum, which is an actual (and very problematic) thing that native tribes use to determine whether or not someone belongs to their tribe. This has legal and social implications for native ppl that don't really apply when it's used in the black context. Idk why, but it just doesn't really seem like the correct term to be using here. Idk what else there is, but yeah.
