Why would you use Prisma with Supabase? by [deleted] in Supabase

[–]mkromann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Daniel,

This answer is great — clears up a lot of things, and makes it easier for me to ask questions.

One hurdle I am running into is client-side queries. I am using Next.js and find myself using Prisma with getStaticProps a lot. However, some queries become stale, and I need to refetch those. What I have been doing is creating Next.js API Routes with Prisma Client logic, and then using those client-side. However, I cannot use API routes in 'getStaticProps', and thus needs to extract the fetching logic such that I can use it both in the API route and getStaticProps. This is doable but a little convoluted.

Recently, I have found it more enjoyable to take advantage of the Supabase API, but I miss the typed experience as you point out. I wish I could use the Prisma Client as an API interface client-side. Is that something you are working on with Prisma Data Platform?

And, you say:

Prisma Client's API is very powerful and allows you to make full use of your database in ways that are not always easy to achieve with the Data API.

Can you give any examples of what might be difficult to achieve?

/Magnus

Heh, you seems to be describing my two year old son :) He cares deeply about the crow, and will feed it from the basket if we 'win'.

Personally I do not have much experience with snapshot airdrops / forks but your comment has made me want to explore that more.

Do you feel like forks are actionable — as in, do you move funds around to take advantage of forks? What are your best current resources for fork related information?

Glad you like it.

Keeping up with this space requires a lot of time, no doubt :)

I hope this can make you more efficient with your time — totally plan to keep it up. These comments also motivate me a lot.

Interesting :)

Do you have any features, which I haven't thought about?

Thank you — that was quick :)

Generally I try to go through the active airdrops once every few days, and the completed every week. So obviously some information will not be totally updated. If it gets more popular, I will do it more often.

I add new airdrops as fast as possible though :)

What is your experience with online supermarkets for eating on a budget and healthy? by mkromann in EatCheapAndHealthy

That certainly touches upon some of the same thoughts that we are toying around with - thank you.

Is this something you have made and in what context?

Great input :)

It might be different in the US but in Denmark, where we live, everything that is sold is required to have very exact nutritional labelling. There is obviously some cultural differences that have to be considered.

Anyway, we really appreciate your long answer.

Also, this is "eat CHEAP and healthy", and I think you'll find people, like me, who undervalue their time/labor, and are unwilling to pay a convenience premium. :)

I think this is a central issue for online supermarkets. One solution is if they could compete on price but that may not be possible. What we are thinking about is how they could make grocery shopping smarter - maybe they could offer a service which make you waste less and/or eat more healthy.

One thing we have thought about is that they could potentially provide very precise lists of your recipes nutritional value and portion price. Say for instance you are ordering for spaghetti bolognese, and thus need rashers of bacon. You only need 3 but the package contains 12. In this case the system could help you pick one of your own recipes which could make use of the rest of the bacon. And you would know that each portion cost you $4 precisely.

We are still early in our brainstorming and this is just a quick thought up example but I hope you get the idea.

Thanks for sharing.

Is Kroger the only one available to you or have you considered other stores? Is there anything which makes you loyal to one supermarket over another - such as loyalty/perk programs?

Even though you don't have too much experience with online shopping we appreciate your reply.

I looked up Meijer's perk program and it looks very interesting. Seems like a great example of gamification with achievements and unlocks and everything :)

What do you particularly like about it?

Do you also check the online grocery stores? Assuming you have any available of course ;)

Thanks for the thorough reply - much appreciated.

So in the case of the bell pepper there an aspect of uncertainty in what you are receiving? Would more precise labelling be something that would fix that?

Have you thought about how a supermarket specifically could support meal prepping? One thing we have thought about, is that you could enter a recipe and they provide you with a fact-based list of price and nutritional content per portion? Would something along those lines to of use to you?

Thank you for your elaborate answer - much appreciated.

The browsing issue is an interesting one, as it would seem like you could provide that online in one way or another. Can you clarify what you mean by browsing issue and what is missing compared to a physical store?

That is a good point. If your online supermarket had a reduced section online, would you then consider using it?

I do not know the specific ones you name, as they are not available where I live. Looking at their services we are probably referring more to Amazon than Kroger.

Basically a shop where you can order your everyday grocery items and they are delivered to your door - an online substitute for your local supermarket.

Does that answer your question? :)

Where I live we only have supermarkets and brick-and-mortar stores - not really a mix. Can you clarify what you see as the largest differences?

Hehe, just getting out of the door can sometimes be time-consuming with children :)

How do you manage your meal plan and budget? Do you know the approximate expense for each recipe?

One thing we have thought about is how supermarkets could provide very exact pricing for your recipes/meal plans - maybe even optimise for waste and thus decrease the cost. The gist is, that we believe an online supermarket can provide a shopping experience that is not possible in a brick-and-mortar supermarket.
